Looking to get into MPQ and have a few questions

I was interested in MPQ when it first came about, but never tried it. Recently, I was reminded of the game and want to check it out. I had a couple of questions before I start, and was hoping someone could help me out. Thanks in advance!

1. I mainly enjoy PvE games, and don't play too much PvP in games where it's available. From the posts here it seems like PvP is a big emphasis of how MPQ is played these days, so will I still enjoy the game if I want to stick to PvE?
2. I'm not sure what platform to play on. From what I've read it sounds like the mobile and Steam versions are close if not identical in content. I know that mobile gives you more flexibility to play anywhere, but I rarely play games on my phone. Usually, if I'm out of my house, I'm busy doing something and I can't game anyway. So, I'm leaning toward the Steam version... but don't want to regret my choice later on.
3. This is also a platform question, but it's kind of a different animal. I know there's a console version as well, but it hasn't been updated in years. But on the flip side, there's no microtransactions because it's not f2p. Since I'm mainly interested in PvE anyway, I was wondering if the console version might be an option for me.
4. For mobile/Steam, what's the cost structure like? I don't mind buying things in a game I'm enjoying, but not if the price is outrageous. From the guides I read over, it seems like roster space is a big thing and that kind of worries me because I'm a bit of a hoarder. So that might be something I spend money on.
