Accusations of cultural appropriation (You sound "too black")
I'm Christian, 17 years old singer that a year ago started a Masterclass on a black church (already had 5 years in Jazz training). One of the main reasons was to master the "vocal Riffs" also known as runs that are very common on African-American Churches. About 4 months ago I started seeing changes in my voice, I felt proud of it and started keeping my fanbase "posted" by my voice starting to get a new shape until I got an extremely heavy comment on my Instagram, Some kind of Social Justice Warrior annoyed at my singing approach (It felt comical at first, so much that I showed the conversation to my black teacher and other teens that are doing my same training, they ware supportive and I moved on at first) Around 3 weeks ago, I received another comment from a different person, (On YouTube) calling me out because hey "you better not touch these songs, disgusting snowflake!!" (the message said "Stop appropriating black culture, cave beast") I don't know what to add to be honest:I PERSONALLY had training on a black church, what can you say at this point? Calling out my teacher as a "Race traitor"?!? a friend of mine jokingly defined me as "a privileged white male stealing black culture in exchange of the Salty tears of SJWs" and holy shit he was right! Seriously tho:It's almost 2020, no one here is denying the possibility of me having vocal traits of an African American (saying that I sound "black" would still be according to their own stereotype of whatever that might sound like) Do I get your support on this cause? I' m open about a debate! (if your curious, this is me singing Jazz:https://youtu.be/2O5L6cbR5tQ)
