I'm happy that I didn't die or have to kill someone in self defense

:story: Life Stories

I am a soft spoken peaceful guy. My wife and I live in a studio apartment with a sliding window that leads to the outdoor hallway.

Last night, I woke up to the sound of the window opening. There was a guy opening it from outside. I never shout at people but found myself shouting at him within a second of waking up. He ran away as soon as I shouted.

After about 5 minutes, he returned, but this time he knocked on our door. He was drunk, apologetic and sounded like he was about to cry. He explained that he meant to go one more floor up, where he was staying. During that time, I had a really sharp knife in my hand (which was out of sight from him) and was ready to try to kill him if he tried anything.

Good thing he wasn't there with the intent of robbing us or killing us. Good thing I also didn't stab him. We are just a bit paranoid now that this might have been him testing the waters for something he might be planning in the future.

(We didn't call the cops because cops here in my third world country are criminals and will try to extort money whenever they can)
