Sex and race do matter in films and cannot be changed for no reason.

In the last few years, for the most strange reasons characters that used to be men have become women and people who used to he white are now not white. While I was ok with this for a while its starting to get a bit absurd. Sex and race do matter and getting them right is important.

To provide a very famous example the Avatar the Last Airbender movie. They fucked up the races of the characters more than in anything I have ever seen in my entire life. The whole of the water tribe was ethically correct except for Sokka and Katara who were white, Aang became white. They made the entire fire nation Indian when they were supposed to be Japanese. The film among many other things was called racist and was constantly called out for fucking up the races of the Avatar universe so badly. And I agree, I hate that they did it so poorly, Sokka and Katara should not be white, they should be inuit.

So why am I allowed to be annoyed about that but not about the new discworld tv series "The Watch" where Lord Vetinari is going to be played by a woman. He is literally a man, its not ambiguous, he is a man and Charles Dance played him perfectly. It honestly feels more like posturing than anything else. Maybe the views on this have changed in 10 years but nope, in RDR2 people found out the actor who played Charles was not Native American and African American but only one of those things and a bunch of people flipped their shit. I dont mind that because its a videogame, he manages to pass it off.

And dont even get me started on the movie industry at the moment. They are clearly just trying to swap the sexes around to resell the exact same fucking movie again and get a pat on the back for being "progressive" or whatever by tabloid media. Its moronic and people are actually buying into this shit.

I mean I could at least try accept it if it went both ways but it doesnt, white men are allowed to be altered but god forbid if you try to do the opposite.

Its stupid, sex and race matter, they are a component of who we are like it or not. And I do see one argument for it which is there is a shortage of women and racial minorities in big films, I get that. But this is not the way to fix things. Like look at the new ghostbuster film, does anyone really think young girls are going to be inspired by the half arsed reboot? Does any girl want to identify with the subpar ghostbusters made as a lazy cash grab.

If you want to add more women and minorities then make new films intended for women and minorities to be that character. Cant think of any look at history for inspiration, for instance Nanny of the Maroons and the Dahomey Amazons. Or just hire more women and minorities as directors as there are basically none in the big time. For instance Natalie Portman pointing it out. Nothing annoys me more than a bunch of straight white men having a go at other straight white men for their shitty characters.

The thing that really shits me is Hollywood is trying to guilt trip their viewers so they can make more lazy reboots, we are talking about one of the most corrupt businesses on the planet and I am not going to be called a bigot by an institution that is run and is a safe space for rapists and pedophiles.

So yeah I think all this sex and race swapping is absurd and needs to stop.
