Over 35 and trying to conceive
I'm sorry to post again about this, but I don't feel comfortable posting from my gender critical account on other TTC forums, and I prefer a radfem perspective in most female matters.
My husband and I have been trying to conceive since September of this year. We just finished cycle three and my period showed up today. I've been diligently charting my temperature and other fertility signs, and this was the first time where I really felt we nailed the timing. My cycle was textbook normal. I decided to really focus on my mental health this month, and I was eating well, exercising, meditating and managing my stress. Then I got my period.
I know that even if you do everything "right," you can still not get pregnant, but it was pretty crushing to have failed again. I'm 35 and will turn 36 in the summer. My husband is 33. Neither of us has had any testing done at this point, and we agreed to wait the standard six months for couples 35+ before going to the doctor. I know it can take a while, but I'm so scared that we're infertile. I don't know how I'll move on with my life if we're unable to have a family.
I know I'm getting started on this stuff way too late and I have so much shame about being over 35 and childless. When people meet me and don't know my age, they think I'm younger than I am because I've only been married for a year and have no children. It's humiliating. My mother-in-law made a comment the other day about how she's the only person in her friend group without grandkids and it really stung. I would have loved to have had kids in my late twenties, early thirties. But life didn't work out that way, and now I'm scared it's too late.
Has anyone here dealt with being over 35 and trying to conceive? How did you deal with all the feelings of fear and doubt and guilt and disappointment? I feel like this should be an exciting time in our lives but I'm not feeling that at all right now. I feel awful.
