In 2040, where will Radiohead rank in "All-Time Best Bands" Lists? And Some Related Questions
I think a lot of people younger than 40 who profess themselves music nerds already place Radiohead in the Top 5 greatest bands of all time. Look at Rateyourmusic (Ranked # 5 top artist of all time, 3 albums in the top 8) or Besteveralbums (Ranked # 2 top artist, 3 albums in the top 12). But there seems to be a divide when talking to folks older than that. Radiohead is often not in their radar at all. But in 2040, those who are 40 will be 60 and dynamics will be different.
So I have a couple of questions.
Where will Radiohead rank in all-time lists when its all said and done and the dust settles, after the band has already presumably retired? Let's say in 2040?
What is the general consensus of whether or not Radiohead has already surpassed their influences such as the Pixies, Talking Heads, REM in terms of "all-time greats?" If not, will they ever?
Where will Radiohead sit with younger music nerds 20 years from now? Will they be seen as a top 5 all-time band like Floyd or Beatles? Or more like a great older alternative band like REM (who is probably seen more as a top 20 or top 30 type of band, but not top 5)?
Can they ever de-throne the Beatles as the go-to best band of all time? How about Floyd?
HUGE disclaimer: obviously taste can be subjective and all-time lists can be silly. This is all for fun. Nothing overly serious, so please don't take it as such.
