Hello, I want to start my adventure with watercolour. I’m looking for advice on the supplies that I should get.

I have researched a bit online, so I’m not completely blind but I would appreciate the advice of those who practice watercolour.

I know that I shouldn’t use paper with a weight of less than 300gsm/140lb because it needs to be capable of absorbing the water.

I’m more confused about the brushes and paints that I should get, as there seem to be conflicting opinions about it. Consider the fact that I’m a total newbie, so it’s not like I’ll be able to use “good” supplies to it’s full potential anyway.

What brushes to get? I don’t care about brands right now, I just need to know the types of brushes. I usually draw with a pen, so I’m familiar with their terminology like brush pens, ballpoints, felt tip etc. and I know their uses. Please tell me the names of different brush types, and if I really need them as a beginner or not.

The other thing is the paints. Many people recommend cheap “pan” variety for newbies, others say the “tube” type is the way to go. I just want paints that act like standard watercolour and allow me to practice/experiment with it, just so I understand how it behaves on paper.
