'For Life' replacement - anyone had any recent experiences?
Hey all,
I've had a pair of the 'For Life' DMs for about 5 years now and they're really on their last legs, but I'm anxious about sending them in for repair/replacement since the For Life scheme has ended. Apparently For Life boots are being replaced with regular bog standard Doc Martens 1460s - is this true?
Other than the obvious lifetime guarantee, I chose the For Life boots for their wider 'comfort' fit. I have super-wide feet, and although I've owned many pairs of DMs over the years, they've always caused me pain. The For Life boots are the first ones I've had which have been wide enough for my feet and genuinely comfortable - a total joy to wear, in fact. The manufacturing quality is obviously higher and the 'hardlife' leather broke in quickly and has become SO comfortable. But mainly it's that wide fit which is what is causing me anxiety, because I know from experience that regular DM 1460s are not made to that sole shape and are narrower. To be honest, I don't want to give up my wonderful comfortable (albeit knackered) boots for a pair that may be too narrow for me and made with inferior materials, and will never end up as comfortable.
Has anyone had a pair of For Life DMs replaced since the scheme was discontinued? Did you end up with the basic 1460 boots?Alternatively, do Dr Martens do ANY boots these days that are made to a higher standard or with that wider fit? I don't mind paying out even £160+ again just to get a comfortable pair of boots, tbh.
And if all else fails, does anyone know of any other brands which manufacture similar boots to a wider fit? Planning for all eventualities here, haha.
