Should I Take a Course If I Still have an Accent?

Everyone assumes that I am from the US and that's just the way I talk; I think in about a year or less there will be no more issues.

I went to the intro class and everyone loved my take, so I can do this without a doubt. But I understand that in this country you can't do this (commercials etc.) with an accent (options being extremely limited).

Also, wouldn't it be more effective to learn these skills when the accent is gone, or does it not matter?
