Sorry I bled all over your room..
So, for my husbands birthday, he decided he wanted to do an escape room. We’ve both done them before, with friends, but we’ve never done one together, so I was down for that.
Because we’d left it late, our options of rooms were slim, so I just booked the last available slot for one that I could, at 1pm on a Saturday.
Now, the place I’d booked, had horror themed rooms, where you can be chased by a maniacal butcher, visit a haunted toy shop, etc. But the room we were doing, was not horror themed at all. It was based around a legend of our city - Robin Hood.
So keep in mind, we weren’t expecting anything gruesome. We were given the safety talk, yada yada -don’t rip wires out, don’t lick things (whut?) and we were on our way.
About 30 minutes into the escape room, we uncovered the door to a passage way we’d have to crawl along. There was a button on the door with an arrow pointing at it. When you pressed the button, the door opened. Take your finger off the button, it closed again. So we figured, one of us would have to hold the door for others to climb through, and then attempt to get themselves through.
I pressed the button, and we were all peering into the passageway and discussing options of who goes first etc. Unbeknownst to me, the door wasn’t going to stop when it got to a certain point..
After a few seconds, my brain registered pain coming from my hand.
I looked across and realised the door had dragged my finger into a space between the wall and the door. I tried to pull my hand free, but my finger was stuck on the button, and the door was continually trying to open, because of finger, on said button. After about 30 seconds of me yelling, I just had to yank my finger out. Which basically caused the button to gouge into my skin, and push it towards the tip of my finger.
As I got myself free, a spurt of blood went all up the wall above the door, and I just started dripping blood all over the floor of this room. (To give you an idea of how much blood there was - they had to get the mop and bucket to clean it up... lolz)
Turns out, you’re meant to put a magnet on the door which would keep it open, and the mechanism for the button to be used manually shouldn’t have even been switched on.
So what should have been a fun activity, ended in a trip to A&E and 6 stitches in my index finger.
Pretty sure I’ve got PTSD from the thought of doing another escape room...
Didn’t even get a refund.
Picture of the wound for anyone whose morbid and loves a bit of gore like me: https://imgur.com/gallery/ASaP1jj
