Family is outgrowing our first home and can’t afford a new one at the moment. Is my only option to save more?

Housing

Wife and I (now 29 and 32, respectively) bought a 1500 sqft townhome when she was pregnant on a nice side of town with very good schools. We also have an 11 year old tiny lap dog who doesn’t do too much or get in the way.

Now, we have a 1.5 year old, and rescued a black lab who needed a home. I’m retrospect, this may be the reason we feel claustrophobic, but here we are. We wanted our son to grow up with a dog.

Anyway, we want to stay on the same side of town and have less than $5,000 in equity in the townhome. Also, our savings consist of a two month emergency fund.

I don’t expect a magic to getting a new place, but I’m wondering if there is anything I can do other than simply save to speed up the process?
