Can't run downloaded 3rd party ansible modules with AWX
Hi
I installed ansible 2.8.4 and (months later) awx 9.0.1 on a CentOS 7 machine.
Before installing awx, I developed my own playbooks using modules for managing software/hardware for different 3rd party vendors and had no issues with it. I've put the modules in /usr/share/ansible/plugins/modules and never had a problem with the path.
I gave a try with awx and when I run a playbook on the local machine that references said modules, I get "ERROR! no action detected in task. This often indicates a misspelled module name, or incorrect module path". Hello world template works just fine. I've also noted that when running ansible locally, ansible 2.8.4 with python interpreter 2.7.5 is used, whereas while running awx templates, ansible 2.8.5 with python interpreter 3.6.8 is being used.
I can't find the referenced locations in my local machine, such as "/usr/lib/python3.6/site-packages/ansible", so I can't really say how it can work, even for the hello world template.
But anyway, I have two questions:
- It really sounds weird to me that awx runs on a different ansible and python version than what is installed on the system. Python 3 and python 2 syntax is infamously different so this could lead to making the whole list of modules in use by someone on ansible actually unusable on awx. I guess the question is am I missing something?
- How can I solve my problem? It looks like when running playbooks in awx, modules in /usr/share/ansible/plugins/modules are not seen.
Thanks
