Where would you put Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields Forever on Sgt. Pepper’s?
This is inspired by a discussion in a thread yesterday.
It’s known that Magical Mystery Tour is an album that was used for singles recorded around the time of Sgt. Pepper.
In the thread I was reading, it was suggested Strawberry Fields Forever and Penny Lane should have wound up on Sgt Peppers, which would have made the album an undeniable #1 in my opinion.
So, my question is if you could put SFF and PL on Sgt Peppers, where would they go? Which two songs would you remove to make space? Mine would look like this:
Songs I would remove: Good Morning Within You Without You (heresy, I know)
Track list:
Sgt. Pepper’s
Little Help from My Friends
Lucy in the Sky
Penny Lane
Fixing a Hole
Getting Better
She’s Leaving
Mr. Kite
When I’m Sixty Four
Lovely Rita
Strawberry Fields
Sgt. Pepper Reprise
A Day in the Life
I didn’t change much in terms of the track list—probably because so much of the order is ingrained in me and feels iconic.
I’m curious—what would you do?
