TIL my family helped cement the US's sovereignty from England

After painting a hallway in our home, my mom hung up an old copy of our family tree, traced from her brother all the way back to our first relative in the US who arrived in 1607. That part I knew but once I started looking over the list more, I noticed quite a few of my my male relatives fought in the Revolution and rose to respected ranks. I found this to be pretty amazing because truthfully, aside from the indigenous Native American Indians, how many people in this country can say they're truly American?

Curious how many other Redditors have similar family histories.
