Am I the problem or is FIFA different?

In the past I've always played career mode on the hardest difficulty and it felt fairly "realistic" I'd get piped by Madrid if I randomly qualified for the CL with 62 points from Denmark, but could easily rotate vs the worst teams in the league. This year though, the worst team in league two, will play 1-2 tiki taka then do 8 cruyff turns and put it off the cross bar and in to beat me 11-0. My players feel so slow, I went into a match and the time from pressing the input to turn my player to the player turning was nearly a second, am I doing something wrong or is Fifa 20 just the steaming pile of crap it feels like to play to me?
