The Leroy Saga

Since the character has dropped, we've all been in awe of Leroy Smith, the cane wielding Sugadaddy. The character design is DOPE but the balance, according to everyone who's tried him is way off. While some people including myself hope we see significant nerfs to the character, there's a frenzy among Leroy players that they will lose out on all the fun.

I want to stress that when a character is brought closer to balance, it becomes more fun to play them. I love Leroy and that's exactly why I want to see him nerfed because right now, none of the victories feel satisfying. After the first couple of days, I can already say that I'm bored of playing him. It feels like there's an extreme amount of lenience when it comes to your gameplay in that you always have options, and none of them require serious thought or execution. This halo of invincibility kind of ruins the fun. You feel like you're playing the game on the Easy setting.

While some people have expressed that they'd like the execution to remain as it is so that he's accessible, I'd like to say that execution with any character is always a pyramid. There's always something hard to do for ever so slightly more reward, and getting to the top like TJU with Bryan, 6 electric combos with Kazuya etc. are a very satisfying journey by itself. But when you lay out all the tools out there with very low execution and good reward, and there's no incentive to put in time with the character to discover their full depth, it's a disservice to the awesome design in my opinion. So sure, I do believe that the entry level basic tools should be accessible to everyone at very low cost, but when one feels inspired by the character to put in the hours, there should be some high execution stuff that separates you from someone who just picked up the game.
