New to Galio, questions and the like.

So galio is a weird champ for me. On one hand, I love him. I love his stupid little voice lines, his kit makes sense to me (I struggle somewhat with his R, but that’s usually more an issue of there never be good times to use it in my games more then anything else I feel like), and his flexible playstyle and options really fill my need for champs I play to be able to do stuff. I hate champs where I’m sitting around waiting for someone to wander off by themselves, or constantly waiting on my teammates to do something before I can do anything at all. It frustrates me, and galio kinda fits that mold of “I have options, now which should I choose?”

On the other hand, I struggle with him. His rune and item options are flexible to the point where he’s almost TOO flexible at times, he’s constantly bouncing around the rift in the meta from one lane to another, and I somewhat struggle to understand at what point in the game my job changes, since I find myself often popping off early on him but then struggling to get much done in mid to late game.

I posted awhile back with similar concerns, I doubt anyone remembers as it was a long while ago, but I wanna move galio from a “sometimes for fun” pick to an actual viable option in my champ pool. I have some questions though going into it.

1. Tank galio. I know he’s pretty much a choice you usually pick into AP heavy teams, but having him as an option I can use in mid would be super nice for those games my team needs a tanky option. Does tank galio work? What does a build look like? Pretty much my standard go to build for it currently on galio is Rod of Ages Into tank items, maybe grabbing a Liandrys if I feel like I can get away with it. It works mostly ok, but I’m sure it’s probably far from the best idea.

2. Tank vs ap. Can you balance between the two in a build, or is it not worth it to build AP unless you go FULL ap?

3. Runes. What are good runes on galio? What are some bad ones? When are some runes good but then there are other times those same runes are bad?

4. Top lane. I hear a lot of back and forth between “top lane galio works” and “top lane galio is trash”, so where do you guys stand on the idea?

5. Tips for beginners. I consider myself comfortable on the champ, and his kit clicks and makes sense to me, but what are some good tips or advice I should take into learning the champ in a more serious approach to him?

6. His ult. As I mentioned above I struggle somewhat with this, as it’s the one part of his kit where it feels 100% reaction based, that I need to do it based on the enemies actions of my teammates actions. What’s some good advice for ways to use his ult, and how can I get better about looking for opportunities for it?
