I installed pretty much every "special" driver on day #1, there were always some issues, but this is the first time in years I actually decided to downgrade

Discussion

This software is still in very unfinished state, basically AMD is using us as their free beta testers...

My experience after a few days with the driver:

  • Chill broken, causes stuttering when the min/max fps is set too close to eachother, also before this update Chill's max value was automatically set to your max Freesync refresh rate, this is no longer the case and it's set to 144 Hz instead of 75 in my case - not a big deal, but still this is a regression especially since you can't check your Freesync range in the driver anymore.
  • of course AMD also removed FRTC with this release so with Chill broken there is no reliable FPS limiter
  • random blackscreen when alt-tabing and then driver crash - it's in the release notes they fixed it but nope, still very much a thing
  • overlay is causing issues in games
  • borderless freesync doesn't work well in some games, there is stuttering (no issue in 19.12.1)
  • my PC sometimes can't shutdown or restart, it will freeze with the driver installed
  • radeonsettings randomly crashes in the background, you can see multiple icons on the taskbar sometimes - all sign of background crash
  • a crash like the above needs complete system restart if you want to use relive because the recovery from a crash is not complete
  • radeonsettings won't start automatically even though it's checked in the options
  • unnecessary bullshit tracking - seriously it's a driver why tf is this a thing and even forced ?
  • game detection is worse than ever, some origin games are not detected if they are installed to a custom location, but they will create profile for their ActivationUI.exe
  • custom fan control is completely messed up, still not a curve btw
  • Wattman can't disable individual p-states, but overdriveN still can - meaning it's a UI thing, the API still works
  • probably more since I don't use many of the new bloatware "features" but still found plenty of bugs

I actually like the new look, but damn it's a mess, so back to 19.12.1
