Rules And How To Post [mod]

PinnedNOTICE

Due to a recent increase in requests for the rules to be reclarified, we are rewriting our rules post.

r/YouTube's Rules:

1: All posts and must be relevant, meta-discussions of YouTube as a platform.

  • Examples of what is allowed:
    • Discussion of a feature on YouTube.
    • Discussion of a bug on YouTube.
    • Discussion of YouTube as a platform.
    • Discussion of changes coming to YouTube.
    • Discussion of ideas for changes to YouTube.
    • Extensions for YouTube (While mods discuss changes to this part of the rule, we are allowing posts for extensions that are not abusive.)
  • Examples of what is NOT allowed:
    • Discussion of other platforms.
    • Discussion of extensions for YouTube (Ex: vidIQ, TubeBuddy, channel/content blockers) Moderation on hold while this section is discussed among mods.
    • Discussion of specific channels or videos - take these to r/YouTubers and r/Videos respectively.
    • Requesting feedback or suggestions for your channel - these are not meta-discussions of YouTube.

2: Remember the User.

This rule is an extension of reddiquette. Remember that there is another human being on the other side of the screen. We take this rule very seriously and will not tolerate any abusive language towards other people, even if they aren't on the sub.

  • Examples of what is fine:
    • Calling a concept stupid.
    • Getting heated - as long as it stays civil!
    • Disagreeing - THIS IS IMPORTANT! If we don't disagree, there are no conversations! :)
  • Examples of what will get you a week ban to cool off:
    • Calling another user stupid or non-slur attacks, such as calling someone an entitled child.
    • Excessive swearing/vulgar language directed at another user or person.
  • Examples of what will result in a permanent ban:
    • Use of ANY type of slur based on the following (directed at a person or not):
      • Age, caste, disability, ethnicity, gender, nationality, race, immigration status, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or veteran status
    • Harassment.
      • Repeated or targeted harassment towards one person will not be tolerated.

3: Promotion is strictly prohibited.

r/YouTube is not for promotion. It does not matter if it is a promotion of your content, someone else's content, a good, or a service. Below is a list of what is considered promotion.

  • Asking people to subscribe (With or without a link)
  • Posting a video that isn't related to a meta-discussion of YouTube.
    • Examples of what is allowed:
      • Videos discussing a specific feature or change to YouTube
      • Sharing a video depicting a bug you are encountering
      • Sharing a video depicting what you are describing (ex: Feature request)
    • Examples of what isn't allowed:
      • Posting your own videos
      • Posting videos that aren't discussing a feature or change to YouTube
      • Asking for feedback on your video or channel
      • Giving (or selling) services, such as end screens, intros, outros, or channel art.

4: Memes are strictly prohibited.

We get it - people like memes. The reason memes are not allowed is because they do not tend to spark discussions about the platform and more often than not lead to a flame war. We have decided to prohibit meme posts as they cause more trouble than they contribute to healthy discussions.

5: Respect YouTube's Rules.

If you make a post asking how to break the rules or bypass detections YouTube has in place, you will be given a week ban. This covers the ToS/ToU, Copyright, Content ID, and Community Guidelines.

6: Brigade posts are strictly prohibited.

Posting about abuse on YouTube on r/YouTube will not get it looked into by YouTube. If you feel there is abuse, please report it using the built-in features on the website or app.

7: Spam.

Refrain from posting about something that has already been posted about in the last week or so. We want to allow discussions of all types on r/YouTube. Flooding it with posts about one topic doesn't allow this. For example, if YouTube is down, do not make a new post about it if there is already one posted.

8: Posts must contain title tags/Respect the title tag.

If you misuse tags to avoid our automod system you will be permanently banned - no questions asked.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's the list of tags that automod knows about - PLEASE NOTE THAT IT DOES NOT MEAN YOUR POST WILL BE APPROVED IF ONE IS USED. Read the rules in full to find out why.
