Last chance to upgrade in a good while - need help!

Build Upgrade

Hello good folks of r/buildapc!

I'm looking to upgrade my build in the coming couple of weeks. I have some leeway to make solid upgrades, and the key is to make sure I won't find myself in a situation of significant shortcoming (hardware wise) in the next 3-5 years. I know there is no such thing as future proof, just trying to set my self up for longevity. My IRL financial situation means I won't have spare money to make any upgrades over said time period, so now is the time.

Current build:

B450 Aorus Elite
R5 2600X
16GB Corsair Vengeance CL16 3000Mhz RAM
EVGA GTX 980 SC ACX 2.0
2 Kingston SSDs (one for OS, one for games) + 1 TB HDD (7200rpm)
Corsair CX750m PSU

Main 'pain point' is GPU, and I've homed in on a RX 5700XT Nitro+. I've got nothing against NVIDIA, but not sure I want to pay the RTX tax on a 2070 or 2070 Super. Afaik the 5700XT matches 2700S (2-4% below) in most use cases, but prices is obviously a lot nicer. I'm also aware that, as usual, a fair amount of users are having driver issues with their AMD cards - though not too sure how much of an issue this _really_ is.

I'm also looking at the CPU. While the 2600X is a great CPU still, I'm not sure how it'll stand in 2 years time. A straight gen upgrade to 3600 does not look to be worth it ('only' 15-20% upgrade), so the 3700X is likely the next option in line (?). I'm conflicted here, as my understanding of CPUs is not very good when it comes to this. Also, I don't mind Intel, but I see no real reason to not go AMD as of now.

A RAM upgrade can be considered (to 3200 or 3400) I suppose, should be some noticeable gains to get there?

Prices for reference in my country (Norway):
- 5700XT Nitro+: 530 euro
- R7 3700X: 380 euro
- G.Skill Trident Z Neo DDR4 3600Mhz 16GB: 140 euro

All thoughts and input is greatly suggested!

I'd change only the gpu for now and keep money for a future upgrade when cpus will be cheaper Also between 3000 and 3200mhz ram you won't notice that much of an upgrade, I'd rather upgrade to 3200mhz 32GB (2x16GB) in the future

That's what I would do in any other situation. However, as mentioned in the OP, I won't have that option for the next 3-5 years. Upgrades happen now or in 3-5 years.

If you know that for about 3-5 years you surely won't upgrade anything and you happen to have the money for them, just upgrade everything and you'll be fine :3

I have about 900ish to spend, sadly not unlimited. :P

So there is somewhat a matter of value here too!

Then upgrade cpu and gpu, ram will work fine like that
