A comprehensive catalog of Firefly / Serenity comic cover art and variants

Updating this guide is currently on hold. My LCBS in Michigan is closed due to COVID-19. When the crisis is over I'll pick up whatever is waiting for me and resume updating.

Disclaimers:

  • This guide is specifically for comic (no graphic novels, etc.) production runs and officially released (in some capacity) multiple-copy variants. No one-off covers or commissions are being included in this post.
  • This guide is focused on variants that are printed with visual differences. Altered, annotated, remarked, signed/autographed, and so on variants are not included in this guide and will be covered in a similar guide focused on product runs of those types.
  • This is done through photos and not stock images to show what the actual printed covers look like; hence, glare is present. I may do a mass re-sleeve at some point and get as many pictures as I can without glare, but that is very far down on the to-do list right now.
  • I'll be updating this post as more comics are released. This is intended to be a one-stop-shop for anyone curious, as well as for my own organization.
  • This is my personal collection. If I am missing something or you spot any errors, however pedantic, let me know. Please.
  • Known issues:
    • Missing Firefly #6 Showcase variant (I'm very interested in finding a copy for sale).

Organization:

  • Categories are series, one-shots, Free Comic Book Day, and "other"
  • Within each category, groups of comics will be clustered by collection and ordered by release date of their first issue
  • For each issue the variants are in an order as follows:
    1. Official
    2. Alternate
    3. Final Order Cut-off
    4. Ratio (increasing in rarity)
    5. Subsequent print runs (in ascending order)
    6. Event, special release, and organization covers, loosely ordered by release date or my perceived consensus of other sources

Format:

  • Each series listed will be a link to an album with each picture being every variant of an issue.
    • These albums will have polyptychs shown where applicable.
  • Each issue listed will be a link to an album with every variant as a collective and then individually.
    • These albums will have image captions with applicable extra information about the covers including artist, variant name, and rarity.
    • These albums will also have wraparound covers shown where applicable.
  • Each variant listed will be a link to the picture of the cover itself.
