Magic in the next Seasons

Discussion

Now that the main mission of returning the dragon prince to his mom, the next seasons will probably have more room for magic, both in studies and in combat.

I believe Callum will probably learn more spells and maybe seek to understand the moon arcanum.

I also believe Callum will probably receive a star primal stone or they will find a Startouched ally, because soul related magic appears to be related to star magic (soulfangs) and they will probably need it to undo the coin spell.

I also think Ezran may end up learning the earth arcanum, given he already has a connection with animals and he learning magic as a king would be a good political move as it would reduce the merits of using dark magic vs primal magic and it would ease relations with other elves.

There is also the element of how will dragons and elves actually react to the fact that humans can learn primal magic without stones, as we only saw one elf react to it and didn't really have time to process and discuss it.

So, what do you think?

Who will learn which magic and why?

Personally, my vote goes to Callum learning all the Arcanum, though I've always been a fan of traditional OP protagonists. But I can see that being a bit too close to Avatar.

If they go down the one arcanum per person route, I think Callum sticks with Sky, Rayla aready has Moon Ezran probably earth, Amaya I can see learning the fire arcanum. For Star, I'd suggest Viren or Claudia, due to their time spent with Aavaros. No idea about Ocean.

Maybe Anya as the Ocean, although I don't remember the specifics to check if it matches her personality.

How do you think they will undo the coin magic though?

I have a few ideas. Figured that we'll likely get a scene where either Callum has to use Dark Magic once more to free them, gravely injuring himself.

Alternatively, Claudia/ Viren step in and say they'll do it instead, as they are already corrupted, and it can be their big redeeming sacrifice moment.

Last option, which is potentially my favourite, is that it takes all the arcanum to undo the spell, so Callum (alone or with the others) jse all the arcanum to undo the coin spell, inadvertantly unlocking the Key of Aavaros, and setting him free.

I like a lot this take in particular

I'd have this as the finale of S6. Claudia is redeemed, tells them about how Viren trapped moonshadow elves in coins, they accidentally release Aavaros while freeing them. S7 has Aavaros as the big bad.

I don't have a source right now but I could've sworn Aaron Ehasz or someone on the show mentioned they plan for Callum to learn multiple arcanums.

Haha, I think I said an almost identical thing in a different thread just after S3 released. Never could find the source, but my fingers are still crossed.

In the AMA a few days ago one of the creator mentioned that Callum will be learning new magic and will try to learn a new arcanum. They don't say whether or not he will succeed.

I think it was in the AMA

I would give Soren the Sun arcanum.

Yeah I agree, now that he no longer has the mission of returning Zym to Xadia, I think that Callum's place in the plot, for now, will simply be that he makes it his mission to learn more about magic.

As for Ezran unlocking an arcanum, I guess that it's possible, but I kinda doubt it, I think he will be more focused on simply becoming a better King, and his existing powers with animals are already more than enough IMO, there's no need for improvement there, his diplomatic skills are the part that he needs to improve.

As for who else will learn magic, I'm not sure, I do hope that there will be more humans who learn magic, now that they know that it's possible, but I have no idea who it will be.
I could see Captain Villads having the right aptitude for unlocking the sky arcanum, but I don't really see what that would add to the narrative so I don't know if it will actually happen.

There's still 4 seasons though (I hope), so for all we know there are still some major characters who have yet to be introduced, one of which could be a human who also unlocks an arcanum.

I also think Callum will try to learn the Moon Arcanum, after he used that Moon Spell on the later episodes of S3.

Although maybe it will be another Arcanum, since he learned the Sky Arcanum on the Book of Sky, and next Season won't be the Book of Moon.

i highly doubt that theyre going the route of any other human learning magic for the moment.

i can see that in a larger timeskip between season 5 and 6, or in an epilogue episode that shows us much older versions of the main cast, callum might take on an apprentice, and found his own wizarding school to go on and teach other humans.

but he has to get to a point where he mastered magic himself first, before he can go on to teach others.

for the next few seasons, the focus is probably on callum growing more as a mage and learning to connect with other sources of magic. (that part has already been confirmed by the showrunners).

im sure he will eventually get to the point of learning all the arcana. but its either going to be over the course of the entire show including possible timeskips between seasons and story arcs, or after the show is completed.

as far as ezran making a connection to the earth primal goes, he either already has it, or he doesnt. if he has it, then what we have seen is probably the full extent of it. i highly doubt he will go on and learn proper magic like callum did. for ezran being connected to the earth would probably going to be similar to rayla being connected to the moon, or villads connected to the ocean/sky. he might have the emotional understanding and connection to the primal, which allows him to talk to animals, but is probably not going to learn to cast spells.

where did you hear about the showrunners confirming callum learning more magics?

i think it was part of their AMA. but they mentioned it before.

we could already see callum beginning to understand the moon arcanum in season 3 too.
