Honest initial thoughts about exway, would like to see your general opinions as well.
Hey everyone, I’ve been riding esk8 for about 2 months now. Started on a boosted and ordered an exway X1 on Black Friday. It came in yesterday, and I’ve racked up about 20 miles on the board. Overall, I have a good impression on the board and the brand.
First thing I’d like to address: the ride. So far, no issues. It’s a stiff board that carves well and the remote/esc control feels really good to me. I don’t really ride for speed, so I have no comment on reaching top speed. The battery does sag though, but that’s just a consequence of having a sleek design; the battery must be smaller to fit inside the deck. I got vibration notifications from the remote at 35% and every 10 percent after that. I got about 7 miles on one charge going mostly between 11-15mph with several short hills and inclines. I must say that the regenerative braking is also super impressive. Going down a short decline about 30 feet usually gets me back 2-3%. Overall, I really love the ride.
Next, the app: I’m not gonna mention the customizable accel/braking curves bc you all know about that already. I didn’t know this at first but unlike boosted, the exway X1 can only connect with either the remote or the app, not both at the same time. I find this a minor inconvenience but not one to worry too much about. Being able to turn the board on and off with the remote is an AMAZING convenience that is wholly welcome. I’m a little confused about the Dash section though. Every time I tried connecting, I get an error message in mandarin so I just don’t bother and I use the ride app instead. I wish I didn’t have to connect to the app every time I wanted to check my odometer though. One cool feature is that it shows how many kg of carbon emissions you’ve saved. Obviously not the most accurate metric but it’s interesting nonetheless.
Lastly, the customer service. u/alxpht actually reached out to me as soon as he found out I had an exway, and told me to pm him if I ever have troubles. Since I ordered after they were out of stock, exway promised to ship my board with a free set of 85mm (black) wheels and the rear sleeves. When I got my board, though, I only got the front wheels. I asked alxpht about it, and he resolved the issue quickly and with enthusiasm. He usually responded to my messages within 5 minutes. Overall, customer support is cooperative and fast.
In conclusion, the board rides and carves really well. Battery is as you’d expect from an internal battery like this, and if you’re riding at a leisurely pace the range is about as much as boosted’s advertised SR. Also, the regen brakes on this board are really good. App has pros and cons, but the customizability is great. Customer service is also great and eager to work with you. I feel like they genuinely want you to enjoy your board. Overall, I think the value I got was well worth the money I paid for it. A board that was 1k last year I copped for $400 on Black Friday. What are y’all’s experience with exway like? I’m genuinely curious because I see some good and some bad things said on this sub.
