Split stay AKL questions

My husband and I are going to WDW for our first anniversary next year. We both want to stay at AKL with a savanna room, but want to switch to a cheaper hotel after maybe 2 -3 nights to decrease costs. We're not doing the DDP. How does this affect Disney's magical express and fast passes? Has anyone else done something like this before? Was it worth the hassle? Thank you!
