Asteroid mining engineering materials

Hi All. I wanted to make a quick post to help out all those noobs (like me) who are looking for RAW materials for engineering. Surface prospecting is no fun for me so when I found that you could get materials by asteroid mining, I was thrilled. For some reason I had never noticed mats getting collected when I was mining before. Here is a great archived post where I learned about the process initially.

This offers all the basics but I wanted to add a couple of things. First is that sending a prospector limpets into an asteroid will not yield any information on the RAW mats that are in the asteroid. I hunted around for hours and wasted a ton of limpets trying to find an asteroid with RAW mats listed in the scans. Turns out they drop as you are laser mining. Keeping 3 collector limpets out at all times kept up with the mining.

I have been through 1 session of about 2 hours and was able to max out sulphur, iron, nickel and carbon. I added 50 to 100 of many of the other grade 1 and grade 2 RAW mats.

Others recommend running the crashed anaconda which is a great way to get Class 3 and 4 RAW materials but they often don't cross trade well. As long as you are trading in the same class, trading down gives great returns but going from one class to another is a crap deal.

I am in the process of getting more info on drop rates and details about rings, mining in Haz RES, etc.

Happy Mining CMDRs... o7
