Credit Card compromised - What happens to the balance on the card now that it was closed?
Hi all, I have a question that my card's customer service was unable to answer for me.
Situation: my credit card was compromised through a pizza chain's account this last week. I called the store immediately to cancel the order before the thief picked it up, which they did (I got a notification the second they made the order), then called to get a new card sent out just to be safe. They just used a card saved to my account (learned my lesson there), and no info besides the last 4 digits of the CC number was visible, so I'm not worried about other identity theft. Since the old card is now closed and the account frozen, I have no means to pay the outstanding balance in the online system. The automated phone system also simply states no balance due.
My question is: would it be reported as a missed payment to the bureaus if the due date passes before I receive my new card? What happens to the balance I had from earlier charges, but that I had not yet paid?
The customer service reps I spoke with didn't seem to understand what I was asking on the phone - regarding when the balance from the now-closed card would need to be paid.
Let me know if you need details, or if you have any advice on things I've neglected to do. I just don't want to mess up my credit over something so insignificant.
Thanks!

You'll likely have your new card in a few days, along with access to the new account online. If your next payment isn't due this week, I wouldn't worry about it. If it is, call back and see if you can get a rep to understand that you have a payment due this week and are unable to use the online system due to the account closure. If you can't get it sorted, just pay it as soon as you can and call the company and ask them to waive the late fee/remove the late payment mark in light of the situation, they will.
