My tactics suck, yet are effective.

Discussion

So I just finished all the hordes in the game. I learned one thing about myself in this game, I absolutely suck and completely panic in every horde I encountered.

I would watch all the videos of people laying out perfect traps and luring the horde throughout a maze of fire traps laid out through the area. However I could never stay on track.

Hell, the sawmill horde I ended up running almost a mile from the mill with the horde behind me and turning around and spraying as we went. After that, it turned into my back up for every horde after that.

I never died on a horde, so i suppose I’m not that bad at it.

I’ve done the same: watch the online videos which then give me confidence to go after a horde only to have it go wrong and me running and shooting/dropping bombs until I clear it out. I can’t help but laugh at myself, and at least I’m having fun. I love the game

Exactly! Having fun us what matters.

Because I wound up liking the game so damn much, I've been playing it constantly. Now on my current game, I have a ritual I like to perform whenever I boot it up for the first time I'm playing that day/session whatever......I'm at that about Mid-way sweet spot at the third camp.

So I boot it up, hop on my bike and barrel over toward the sawmill, I don't watch the mini map and wherever I end up entering the area from, is where I start from.

I check out where I am. Where THEY are, and start setting up traps.

Not randomly, but with only an improvised plan.

Toss in an attractor or molotov or grenade or whatever just to kick things off. Then I see what happens and do my best to eliminate all but a few freakers before I bug out. Then I reload and play normally cause after that... if I was at all rusty or not quite feeling it...I am now. Pure crazy fun.

Sometimes sucky but effective is all you need! With practice, you will improve. Don't sweat it.

Hey Marlow. Keep seeing your posts helping people and your vids and making a point to ask you if you had a channel where you post that content and more, but always forgot, but....found you on YouTube during a search and happy to be an early sub!

Keep it up my friend. 8)

Thanks, man! I don't post at Youtube often, but I'm glad to know someone is looking!

Marlow is right. Like in real life, what matters in the end is who's laying on the ground bleeding out, and who's still standing but just bleeding. LoL

Things are almost always going to go south to some degree. Plan ahead as best you can. Execute that plan. If you have trouble staying on the route you had planned...well practice makes perfect. Keep an eye on your mini-map and the blue icons for explosives you've placed pre-battle and remember...even if you don't hit the route where you placed them directly, you can still take out quite a few if you lead them even close to those. Sometimes more than if they had hit them dead on. And you will get better. Don't let their "run at you like maniacs till you piss yourself" tactics get to you.

They're just polygons no matter how ugly and intimidating they try to be.

Only thing that matters at the end of the day is...are you having fun? If so then who cares HOW you take em out.

I had the sawmill horde follow me on my motorcycle for a LOT longer than I thought they would. Kinda worked out. Stop, shoot, reload, hop back on bike and repeat.

Early on (before being patched), the horde stopped on the main road and didn't cross the bridge - or so someone said, I never saw that as I usually just sped off up the snowy hill, not across the water. Now I put the bike on the gravel facing the water, hide in the bush and get them to come to me. If you want action, get them to chase you through the gauntlet, turning to shoot the barrels - if you've not trapped them - hitting square through the wood plank piles etc. If you're good with the weapon aiming you might want to consider not laying a prox bomb by a barrel because Hussein Bolt at the front sets it off and you might get one or two that can almost keep up with him and that's it. Waste of a decent barrel; try either turning, shooting the faster lone guys in front then giving the bigger mass a chance to get close enough to blow them up - still shooting the strays and others, of course. Or, chuck an attractor by it, then turn and shoot the barrel/ lob a grenade. Sometimes, the bodies are too thick around it and your bullet may not hit the barrel and next thing you know they are in your face.

I chose the BND one time, made some gas rounds, and though Bend have now boarded up the two low windows of the machine room, you can shoot a poison bolt through the gaps in the wall. I got 75% of the horde this way and then ran the gauntlet with the rest after they spotted me.

Also, this horde used to respawn, great for XP, but now it doesn't; I cleared it b4 I had to, thought I'd have to beat it again. Nope. I was disappointed.

I did see Pillette Railway Tunnel Horde respawn right in front of me... well, actaully I was up on the arch sneakily blowing them up and pressed R3 to see where the last ones were, knowing I'd only got one, maybe two left, then suddenly there were loads of highlighted freaks all sitting cross legged below me. Bargain. Send the Breaker in... see how long the bully lasts.

Oh, and have you noticed now how the odd nest has a breaker in it? Caught me out the first time...
