Advice for Latin America travel (I'll give gold as a reward !)

Question

Hello everyone, thanks for your time !

I'm trying to book a flight from Cancun (flexible) to Buenos Aires (flexible as well) ! It's part of a big trip I'm doing in latin america but I've only found very high prices when luggage is included. From Buenos Aires I'm planning to visit patagonia so I could also land much more south if needed. If anyone has any good idea for me it'd be very appreciated! If it makes the challenge any fun i'll give gold to whoever finds a flight under 300. Dates would be between 1-5 march. Thanks a lot, all help is appreciated !

I don’t know if links are allowed here but check this out: https://www.thebubble.com/the-four-main-reasons-why-flying-in-argentina-is-so-expensive

There is a near monopoly on air travel in Argentina, so the chances of you being able to fly into Buenos Aires for that little is pretty small. I don’t have any advice other than try looking at Uruguay as a place to fly into, then ferry to Buenos Aires.

Good luck!

Agreed! Depending on how much time you have Santiago is another easy option and buses (though far distances) are very nice and cheap.

I bussed to Patagonia (ended in Ushuaia) from Buenos Aires > Mendoza> Santiago > bariloche then flew back to B.A. for about the same price of all those busses combined

Don’t forget B.A. has two airports EZE and Aep(??? Can’t remember)... definitely search both when looking (although I think EZE may be the only one that offers transcontinental flights).

Good luck!

When you say Cancun is “flexible”, what do you mean? Could that include “nearby” gateways like Mexico City or Miami, or do you mean more like Mérida or Cozumel?

Also, what kind of prices were you seeing that you considered expensive? $500-$750 is a realistic one-way price from North America to Argentina. You may get it a little cheaper with say Interjet to Lima and then an airline like Sky to Argentina, but these would be on separate tickets.

If you are a student, you may want to check Student Universe or STA Travel to see if LATAM or Aeromexico have any student fares.

The first week of March is probably one of the busiest times at the Cancun airport, so allow plenty of extra time to deal with Spring Breakers.

If you don't care about going to BA, its not too bad getting to Santiago in Chile, and crossing the border into Mendoza for a domestic flight or work your way down the coast and cross over down south
