Tips for getting to champion

Team Building

Hi guys,

So I'm currently trying to get to champion, and I keep getting stuck around challenger 2.

My units are pretty good, but I feel like my defense is what's keeping me from making it to champion, offense is not really a problem for me. In a good week my defense will be around 30%, but bad weeks I barely scrape 15%. Last 4 weeks have been 19/20/30/13%.

These are my units right now:

6* Cermia, Ken, SSB, Amomo, Angelica, Vildred, Tama, Iseria, Basar, Vivian, Gpurgis, Spez, A coli, A cidd, Champ Z, Lilias, Luna, Karin, Yufine, Violet, Maid Chloe, Lorina, Fallen Cecilia, BBK

5* A lots, S rose, Ravi, Lidica, Elena, A Cartuja, Kitty Clarissa, Eaton, W schuri, Baal & sezan

I have currently tried various lineups like this:

Core: Champ Zerato - SSB

Various combinations : Basar, Violet, Gpurgis, F ceci, Momo and A coli.

I've tweaked a lot here and there but I cant seem to get my def to run better. Any tips and insight will be appreciated because I feel like I have the units but I might be missing the "golden" combination.

I'd say rely on RNG and unexpected builds.

My Krau runs on Elbris and probably provokes some people to disrupt their combo.

In this case you have Fceci for that which is way better in that regard compared to Krau.

  1. Fceci
  2. SSB
  3. CZerato
  4. Maid

Yeah that sounds like a good lineup.. Could definitely give that a try this week.

Do you build ur ssb tanky? Like above 10-12k hp? Think with this lineup a tanky ssb is very important no?

Vhility•

Ehmm if you consider 10-12k hp tanky, then yes.

Built mine on atk/.immunity set with: 11k hp - 4k atk - 93 crit rate - 228 crit dmg - 140 spd - only 30% effectiveness.

Also, try and use immunity on all units which in some cases adds another level of rng

3
hotfloatingheadOP•

Yeah I wouldnt call it a tank.. but more tanky than what I got now for sure, mine has similar stats to yours only slightly less hp (9.8k) and a bit more crit dmg (260). On immunity so that's a plus.

Guess I might try and get her a bit more tanky seeing as that's always good for def.

Lilias>Maid>Ssb>gpurgis

Is good start for defence. The trick to staing in champ is to have cancerous defence. With that i mean full stall or have units like mlken who stop cleave. I got attacked only once in last 12 hours in champ with Maken, Lilias, Kayron and Maid

3
hotfloatingheadOP•

Yeah exactly I need my def to be a bit more aids for people. I guess I should work my lilias maid combo a bit more.. One of the few combos I havent used a lot.

I'll give it a try in the coming weeks.

This team will get cleaved easily.

Puzzleheaded_Fix•

Lilias Aurius, Maid has 20k hp+ WO gpurgis has 20k hp. No jkise/bbk is cleaving that with tywin+basaar. But maybe you can drop ssb for fceli

You need a decent Def team to maintain in champ

1
hotfloatingheadOP•

Yeah I know, I feel like I have good units but just cant find the right combination. Anything you recommend trying?

I'm not expert in here, with a vild maid f ceci and lilias, my Def rate below 15% and got attacked many times in champ 5 drop to chall 1

1
Puzzleheaded_Fix•

You don't need good def winrate. You only need scary defence. It doesn't matter if you have 30% win rate if you get attacked 50 times.

It's way better to have 15% win rate and get attacked under 10 times.

Trick is to add rng and for example basaar that ruins most offneses. People need to gamble with the speed

15-30% defense is not bad. Actually, 30% is really good. Tbh, it sounds like offence may be the problem.

1
hotfloatingheadOP•

Hmm my atk is pretty decent I think. My win rates are usually 90-95%.

30% in challenger isnt good right? If I don't attack at all I'll stay even in challenger 5, but around challenger 2-3 my defense starts losing a lot more and it's hard to maintain my position.

I think my defense gets attacked too often.. last week I got attack 193 times, and won 37.
Got some tips and think I just need to make my defense more annoying so less people will attack.

1
EmergencyWatch1•

% doesn't mean about good defence, amount of enemy attaking you does. (except when you can made bait def and reach +50%)

30% when you get attacked 200 times isn't great, 0% when only 10 people made attack is great.

Anyway, with 95% offense just buy extra sword and push yourself up.

xxdarigezxx•

Make a defense that people won't want to hit. They don't even need to be geared to well. My basar is pretty slow my ml ken doesn't have a scythe (can't get one to drop) My SSB has the fan on for banshees and my last unit changes.

My defense is a scarecrow. I get a win here or there but usually stay around 10% win rate. I think I only win because the speed tuning is awful so people expect a different fight. I stay in champ 4/5 cus i'm lazy and don't want to reroll who i'm fighting 50times to find someone i know i can beat.

If offense isnt a prob then just buy flags until u reach champ

1
hotfloatingheadOP•

Yeah but the whole idea is getting there and staying in champ, and not losing as much points.

I could reach it by doing what you're saying but that'd cost me a shit ton of crystals which I prefer to keep. Thats why I'm looking for tips to improve def

1
R41z0then1nja2019•

Im in champ 2-5, my def is shit. Around 8-12%. Buy flags its only 30ss i think for 5, its easy to stay than waiting around for your flags to recharge coz u will get attacked

1
RahvithecolorfulDirty casual•

I second R41zthen0nja2019.
I've been Champ 5-2 (generally Champ 4 or 3) as well for weeks since I rushed to Champ the first time from Challenger II with my equally shitty defense. It's much easier to stay in Champ than I though if you're just normally active.

You'll get much more Skystones from the one time promotion rewards than you'll lose from the flags you might need to buy to get there. 5 flags is only 30 SS. You'll get more SS from the weekly rewards once you're Champion too.
It's worth it.

Alright thanks for the input. Currently pretty low on crystals with all the recent banners.

Ill take the next week to test some defenses and when I save up some crystals again I'll try a big push for champ. Thanks mate :)

Good luck! You have better units and apparently better gear (with that super speedy Basar I can only dream of) than me so I'm sure you'll have no problems :D

40% def rate is the break-even point. Below this you begin to lose points. Above Challenger most people will typically have very honed offenses that makes it almost impossible for your AI defense team to achieve anywhere near 40%. 20-30% is probably about as good as you can hope for. So Champion life means you will constantly need to win 10-15 matches a day just to not drop rank, depending on how often you are attacked.

As far as defense goes, you will want to add RNG elements (e.g. counter FCeci or Charles, Hilag Lilias, etc.) combined with a solid defense with at least 2 threats or 1 with maid or ruele. Stall teams don't work that well anymore in the post-Corvus era.

You can try a scarecrow / speedy defense too. My experience is that those teams always fall apart when attacked because those who do attack are probably confident they can outspeed you. Do pay attention to the defense stats. It's better to have to have 10% if it's 1/10 (lose 60 points) rather than 30% if it's 15/50 (lose 100 points).

Either way you will lose points and you will start to really bleed them once you're in mid-high champ because almost everyone will have their own meta-busting offense teams by that point. On the other hand, if you have a strong offense it's actually possible to run all the way to legend if you dedicate a whole evening to it.

Mid-high challenger is probably the last place you can kind of just hang out and chill in if you're looking to just to do the 5 daily matches.

Champion meta defense right now is high aggro, generally with Basar/Romann/Hurado/Flidica to strip and gain a CR advantage

Since you have Basar that works. Idea is you need him to be fast, 240+ ideally (but you can bluff a lot of people into not attacking you even if you basar sucks)

SSB pairs very well with basar. It makes it so that momo will cleanse the buff block, then SSB puts it right back on without incredible CR tuning from the offense.

With Basar SSB you want to focus on high damage. FCC with a ddamage build can help, BBK is good if you have her 170+ speed as well. I'd personally try these two with minimum 170 speed on all characters and basar 240. That's going to win a lot on defense.

I float between champ 4 to champ 2, peaked at 5210 and got lazy. I have a 3.5% defense rate average and 90% attack.

My key is to use every flag as it becomes available and also always buy the friendship ones. You'll get there eventually. Also you want to end the week at least at challenger 2, so you reset to challenger 3 and the climb takes less flags

1
hotfloatingheadOP•

Yeah I just figured out that ending there resets you higher. Im gonna run basar gpurg ssb champ z now which does decently.

Then save up a bit of crystals (current banners fucked me xD) and make a 2 week push soon. Just gonna work on making my basar ridiculously fast and see what happens.

I have two accounts in Champion.

Challenger 1-2 is very competitive, spend some refresh and time to reach champion and you will be attacked lesser.

My main has 5-15% def rate and alt has 25%+ def rate, they both get attacked quite abit.

Once i forget to do rush hour on reset day, i get pushed down and is very hard to come back to champion without refreshing. But once i get on champion, i do not drop down to Challenger or climb back up within the same day.

Focus on your offense and go for 90% win rate++

1
hotfloatingheadOP•

Allright man thats what most people told me, thanks for the input ill definitely do that 👍

1
Armster44•

You definitely have option for a def team M.Chloe, F.Ceci, SSB, Lilias, BBK, Basar, those are pretty common in Champion and synergy well, you need at least 25/30% def win to stay in Champion, if you can't get that with those hero then i say your problem is in your gear.

0
hotfloatingheadOP•

Cheers for the reply.

I'd say out of those heroes the only one that is undergeared is BBK, her stats are: 3500atk 10k hp 115spd 81 critR 255 critdmg, stats seem ok but she always underperforms.

She def needs a lot more atk so I'll look into getting her geared up a bit more.

The other heroes u said are all geared pretty well, speed ranging from 190-240 (basar).

I guess maybe something along the lines of Maid, Lilias, F ceci + BBK/SSB can be pretty strong. Thanks for the input mate

1
RahvithecolorfulDirty casual•

That's not really the case, in my experience. I've been in Champ for weeks and only got pushed back to Challenger I one time, and just climbed back right away.
The most my def has ever got is 9.5%. It's usually lower than that.
I don't buy flags with SS, and I do my NPCs with decent frequency.

1
Armster44•

This may also be because of the team comp, some team may not have a lot of win rate but get skiped because they look annoying or too time consuming, some other like mine get a 30% win rate but get targeted a lot more getting the same result in the end.

1
RahvithecolorfulDirty casual•

I get hit something between around 100 and 140 times per week. Not sure if that's normal... I just can't imagine people skipping it much. It's Lilias, SSB, Charles and Carmin.
