Yet no one in the resistance thinks they should drop a bomb or 2 into that top of the sith temple after that attack.

Why doesn’t Hollywood understand that when villains do crazy over the top magic bullshit they become less intimidating? It takes you out of the movie as this isn’t a person vs person conflict on any realistic level anymore. The Emperor was creepy as shit in RotJ, and his lightening was limited to one-on-one type of thing. That makes it more reminiscent of a deranged old man with a gun, the fear feels more grounded and thus more real and threatening.
When he starts destroying fleets in space, he becomes more like a God, and since this is a Star Wars movie you know the good guy is just going to rise to meet his power level in some way to make it irrelevant. Then it’s basically two God-like figures duking it out and no one can relate to that. It’s not a situation we can find ourselves buying into.
Man, when Palpy used lightning on Luke in ROTJ it was scary. Because Luke had NOTHING he could do to stop him. He was at the mercy of dying or being saved by Vader. That was it. The Emperor was torturing him to death. The stakes were high.
A concept that seems beyond the ST.
Aye! That and the lightning was a huge WTF from the seemingly unarmed old man spewing evil lines and venomous appearance. The music naturally helped sell his electrocution torture/slow killing, but damn... it was an intimidating opener and all sorts of signs of how life support-bound Vader could be mortally harmed dealing with someone of that magnitude of power.
It's not even isolated to Hollywood. Power creep has been a huge problem in all media. So many series have has gigantic leaps in power in order to up the ante that either makes all established characters weaker or makes them retarded for not using that power earlier.
Cough cough Dragon Ball cough cough
you can relate to people shooting lightning out of their fingers at any level?
Yes, the lightening is just a stand in for any other kind of weapon. We fear someone who has a gun, but if they whip out a nuclear bomb bazooka that’s instantly confusing and seems fake
i honestly don't watch fantasy movies for realism
Of course not, but you can understand the difference between these two, right? One feels threatening and the other feels weird because it’s super over powered. Why doesn’t he use that much force power against Rey later on? Because he’d win, that’s why he’s not written to use that kind of power level against her, just the ships.
Instead of having a situation that feels natural within the established universe, they went with something that is more confusing within the story than threatening.
just turn your brain off bro
