Free plug-n-play calendar with color coding of events

Hi all,

I am currently struggling with replacing Google calendar since I can't find the features I need, namely I want to be able to color-code different events. I tried Tutanota which is nice, however I am a student and can't afford the premium so there's only one color for the events which is not very helpful. I am also looking forward to Proton calendar but since it's still in (paid) beta I would love some alternative in the meantime. Also good syncing capabilities out of the box as well as an app and/or desktop version would be a huge plus. I am really used to Google cal enviroment so I can't imagine replacing it without the same features.

If there's something that would fit at least part of the bill (the colors) please let me know, thanks!
