My girlfriend is incredibly sympathetic of the current fires and is looking for a way to help beyond donating. She was part of fire squad in the US Navy and is looking for a way to get over a help fire fighting efforts. Is there any way this is possible?

No. You would have to be a fully trained current firefighter from a recognised brigade in the US and have whoever controls the firefighters send an approved amount of firefighters officially.
You guys could learn to knit/crochet if you don't know how already and make things for the injured animals, but being so far away donating to WIRES or other animal care places would be best. Just make sure they are not scammers!
