I thought the middle section led well into the last “chorus”, but I might take off a measure or two from it; it felt like you were building to the end but were already there. The ending section was really good, for some reason I liked it a lot better the second time round. Maybe vary the chords a bit more throughout the song, as it gets a bit repetitive.
Good job, keep going!
It does sound better for some reason the second time around and I’m not sure why. You’re right about it getting repetitive, I’m constantly fighting repetition in my songs because it’s easy and I tend to get lazy. Thanks for the great feedback it really helps!
Sure thing! One piece of advice I appreciated was dropping out/altering some of the arrangement in earlier choruses—the song should feel like it’s progressing forward, so don’t go whole hog right away. Might help if you’re into it, always worth a shot.
Distorts at around the 30 second mark and stays distorted basically from there on, could use a lot of eq to sort that out. I'm guessing you have a compressor or limiter cranked on the master? turn that down like 4-5db and you'll get back some of the dynamics you've lost. Creatively speaking this is good and I like it, from a technical mixing perspective it needs a lot of work imho.
I basically mixed up the song where I thought it sounded perfect, rendered it out, then tossed a ton of OTT on the master because it made the chorus hit. I’m thinking i definitely went overboard.
Hahaha Jesus, I don't wanna sound mean cos I totally mean this criticism constructively and encouragingly but that is definitely not what you should be doing on your master. master is for subtle tweaks not slamming effects on! I bet it sounded fine before the ott, or with just a touch of it. Maybe just whack some ott on your synth bus or whatever if you feel like it helps but def don't have ott on your master unless it's just a touch to give it a little shine. Targeted multiband compression on your master is fine but just slamming ott is not the way to go lol
Haha, you’re good man, I don’t take my stuff all that seriously, so I’m comfortable with a very heavy roast.
I wasn’t planning on slamming it with OTT. I started with just a small amount, then I turned it up to 100% to check it and I loved it. Probably because my ears were tied from listing to the same song a hundred times in mixing and it suddenly sounded very different. After your feedback I’ll just take it off the master and put it in the bass pluck because I think that’s where I like it most.
When it doubt, slam it with Sosig and OTT?
no ott or sosig make homer something something...
hahah yeah that's where i got my golden rule of no mixing after 2am, your ears are muscles and they get tired after a while! yeah it was kind of a heavy roast lol so on a positive note though i think creatively it's a really cool track, would like to hear what ends up happening with it.
I would start the song at 13 seconds I really like the vocals the high pitch one, these are dope. Nice piece of work. Keep it up! Where did you find these chop vocals, please lol?
r/drumkits. Check the top posts of all time.
oh shit this harder than i expected good track little repetitive towards the end but still a good listen
Good shit, I liked it a lot, the only thing I can think to say is that during the chorus or drop whatever you want to call it, I kept feeling like it was building towards something bigger, not sure why I was just expecting a bigger section to come after and everything clear up and maybe get some of those vocal chops in the background to come more into the forefront.
Full disclosure I am listening of a pair of shitty earbuds
But over all I liked it a lot
Great suggestion. I’m not quite good enough at this yet to fully execute a proper drop. But I definitely agree that the build kinda builds to nowhere. Thanks for the suggestions!
Ok well if I could give you a little guidance it would pick one element to base it around (I.e. melody, chords, drums, etc...) and the try to layer your other elements around those to make them bigger. For example you could have a vocal chopped lead and then maybe a pluck behind it to emphasize the attack, and other layers to emphasize other aspects. This is where you can really get creative and develop a unique sound.
I like it, I ’ll try this out. I think the pluck bass is what is giving most of the energy to the chorus, so I’ll get to emphasize that.
Very original. Mix could be a bit cleaner, I guess too many elements floating around. But otherwise good job
I agree, I made some questionable decisions in the mix process like slamming it with OTT which muddied the song up. I also think that I have a few tracks that aren’t really helping make a point, just kinda making noise. Thanks for listening!
No problem man! Tracks to make noise is ok, but maybe they are too much upfront?
bleep bloop
Thanks for submitting to r/roastmytrack.

beginning sounded amateurish maybe too basic imo maybe try a different sound for the melodic element that comes in at like 0:13
honestly hard to roast this track. really just commenting to say good job, sounds dope
You’re totally right about the intro though. I just have a high pass filter slowly opening up and this is done in way too many songs. Ill look doing something different here. Thanks!
