who is going to be the brave first one to upgrade?
If 2 of my 4 nodes were not on a round the world mission and not upgradeable, then I'd def be doing this!
I have to upgrade in the next month or two to mitigate a issue with gen10 servers, so I'll let you know! Twice now I've lost a SSD on two separate hosts and the OVC services stop bringing the host to a halt... Last time it happened on a weekend where a SSD failed on two nodes one day apart. They were also storage HA paired up. Brought half my production cluster down because the VM's on those hosts lost their primary and secondary storage, fun stuff!
Is there an advisory for this issue? We currently have 10 clusters deployed.
Doesn't sound like it. The original tech said it was the second time he had seen it recently. Called in again the next day to work another issue and was assigned a diff tech. While making small talk and a side joke about spending lots of time on the phone with HPE the past 24 hours, that tech said he also worked a case just like it the previous day.
After they parsed all the logs I uploaded, I was instructed to "upgrade the firmware in the servers to xxx version then to upgrade to 4.0 as soon as possible. This is a newly discovered issue that will be resolved in 4.0".
These are all DL380 Gen10's running Omnistack 3.7.7 and ESXi 6.7. Maybe it's not big enough yet to warrant an advisory. Maybe they don't know the scope of the issue yet, I'm not sure.
I just hope it's fixed in 4.0 and the newer firmware.
Interesting. we primarily use these in 2-node configs for small robo's. we are on 3.7.9. We are going to 4.0 asap because our vCenters are all jacked and have to go to 6.7u3. our hosts are actually running 6.5u2c.
This is a known SSD issue with the 3.7.0 firmware.
The 3.7.0 Simplivity supports the 4.0.0 firmware (check the support matrix) - so you can upgrade the firmwares and remain on 3.7.0 and still be in a supported configuration.
That is what we've done - I'm a bit nervous about x.0.0 versions. ;)
Great to know thanks! I know they told us to upgrade from 3.7.7 but like you, i'm not huge for jumping to a .0 revision if the firmware will do.
The 4.0.0 is not a major release - it just aligns with their agile (6 week) development schedule and numbering. It's not like it's a new major version - far from it - simply the next release in line.
Great timing.
Just put in an order for a bunch of SimpliVity 380 Gen10 nodes. It's finnaly time to replace the all our old CN-2200 omnicubes.
Hey what are you doing with the old CN-2200 cubes?
