Soul Music. Where do I start?

I'm a fan of lots of music, but have never really gotten too heavy into soul music.

I know the basics (james brown and marvin gaye and that kind of stuff).

Where should I go?

I want artist catalogs or at least really solid albums. Not just tracks to listen to unless they are must listens and the rest of the artist is awful.
