DAE get constant complaints from neighbors when practicing bass?

I live in an apartment building and I find it especially hard to practice my bass without my neighbors complaining. Even when I have it turned down so that I almost can't hear it, my neighbors hear the faint bass carrying through the walls. Or it might just be that my neighbors hate me. Anyone have any similar experiences?
