Crown 202 vs Gamerfingers: Mechanical Switch Guide

I've purchased both buttons and tried every mechanical switch that's listed but I will only note down what fits. I won't be putting down my preferences on each switch because feeling is subjective.

Crown 202

  • Linear switches

  • Cherry MX Red

  • Cherry MX Silent Red (Pink)

  • Cherry MX Speed Silver (included)

  • Cherry MX Black

  • Cherry MX Linear Gray (not sure where to get these as I got one from a switch tester

  • NovelKeys x Kailh Speed Heavy Dark Yellow

  • Tealios

  • Other linear switches from zealpc should fit in theory

  • Clicky switches

  • NovelKeys x Kailh Speed Navy Thick Clicks (note that this is the exception because these use a clickbar design that BOX switches use) (also I'm using these in my current stick, don't recommend unless you like being loud and enjoy very heavy key switches)

  • NovelKeys x Kailh Speed Heavy Pale Blue

  • Tactile

  • NovelKeys x Kailh Speed Heavy Burnt Orange (HeyOtako can confirm they work)

  • Kailh Speed Copper (HeyOtako can confirm they work)

  • What doesn't work

  • Any BOX switch as the plunger is bigger than the BOX stem

  • Tactile switches such as Cherry MX Brown and MX Clear, you can apply these to the Gateron variants

  • Clicky switches such as Cherry MX Blue and Greens, you can apply these to the Gateron variants

Gamerfingers

In theory everything except for BOX shaped switches should work from my limited testing (basically plinking/double tapping to see if the switch pops out). You shouldn't have to worry about switches popping out if you jam in the switch in as hard as possible.

Personally I tried Zealios and T1 switches and they work just fine

  • What doesn't work
  • Gateron Yellow Inks
  • All Kailh BOX switches

Other Notes

  • I find Crowns to be a tad quieter than Gamerfingers due to their closed design but they are much harder to open and Samduskca discourages you from opening them but that didn't stop me.
  • Tactiles and Clicky switches do not work with Crowns because of the way they compress and lock in the switch.
  • Crowns have slightly less wobble but it is also dependent on what switch you get.
  • More color options for Crowns
  • Gamerfinger plungers will fit box stems but they'll pop out
  • If a switch feels really loose to you then you can try [this epoxy method] (https://www.reddit.com/r/fightsticks/comments/d0hjwj/gamerfinger_pushbuttons/eza7ze4/)

TL;DR: Gamerfingers if you want to try out every switch.

No BOX switches

Crowns if you like linear or 2 very specific clicky switches

EDIT: Removed Gaterons in the Crown section as they are too big to fit in the housing

Thanks for doing all the testing, this information is great for the community to have.

MX Blues do work on the 202Cs, I use them in mine. Probably gonna try searching for MX Greens if I don't find something heavier.

Do you have a link for your switches, perhaps ?

EDIT: Alternately, if any of you have a link for GamerFingers in Europe, I'm down for that too !

When I put in blues, they actually got stuck when I pressed them down. I can’t in good conscience recommend them in crowns. I also tried greens but there was no button press detected in game. Sorry I’m US based since I bought my switches from novelkeys.xyz

I had the stuck switch issue before. Did you remove a little plastic plate from the switch bases ? My MX Blues only fit if that plate is present.

I kept the plate on. I did note that my crowns were fairly difficult to open so I’m considering the manufacturing tolerance would let some housings fit blues. Mine didn’t so it’s not guaranteed that they’ll work for other people.

I thought the only switches that truly worked were speed silver cause anything else is introducing a longer travel time for the plunger, which is bad.

Nah speed silvers have been marketed as the “best” gaming switch because of their travel distance but it really depends what switch you like. I just put up this list because no one really put up a compatibility guide so I made my own with most of the switches I have lying around.

You bought your Crowns on Paradise Arcade?

yeah

So you are saying my spare Holy Panda switches won't work? Bummer

holy panda housings would be too big to fit in Crowns anyway. You'll need Gamerfingers for Holy Pandas

Slightly off topic question but can anyone comment on shipping times for gamerfinger buttons? I’m not sure who is the best retailer to buy from or if I should buy direct from gamerfinger?

Hey, I know this thread is old but do you know if 202's would work with Kailh Gold and Bronze? I kind of want a clicky feel but there are a lot of mix messages about what works and what doesn't. like in your post you say that tactile and clicky don't work with crown but you list a lot of them and even say you use a clicky one.

I need to make an edit on that part. I learned about 2 months ago that click bar designed clicky switches (Kailh speed series)work just fine BUT click jacket designs like Cherry Mx blues DID NOT work for me.

in terms of build quality and sturdiness which one would you think is the best?

ive been researching from paradise obs mx to crown 202 to gamerfinger and i primarily been thinking of using either the mx black/red, so i want to go for something that is much more robust in terms of long time usage.

Personally, I prefer the crown 202 because there is a lot more color variety to match your build. Quality-wise I think crown 202 or gamer fingers are fine. I have not tried paradise‘s obs mx. Cherry Mx reds and silvers are very similar to each other except that silvers actuate higher. Mx blacks are heavier if you prefer slightly more resistance to your presses.

thanks for your insight. i will look more into it, And as for switches i think both of them by default comes with mx silver. I might add mx black for the side buttons like start & select
