Is This A Zero Carb Breakfast? - ALDI Granola By GoldenVale?

Help

Hi everyone.I am new to Keto and have been having a lot of fun figuring it all out over the past week while I have been getting started.

I had read that all pre-packaged cereals generally have a lot of carbs. Today I came across a cereal at ALDIIt is called Paleo Granola with Honey Pecan by GoldenVale (I am in Australia)

On the Nutrition Information it states the following.

Carbs per serve = 7.6gDietary Fibre = 8.1g

When I scan the barcode on MFP and check on the website using the net carb script, it does actually show up as -1 Net Carbs. (Can that even happen?)So is this actually a totally carb-free cereal or am I missing something here?

I would have posted a picture but it does not seem to allow me to do that here. I have posted them here instead https://imgur.com/a/ahKIJIw so you can scan the barcode if you need.

To be honest, they are pretty delicious! This is why I am thinking there must be a mistake here, but I just don't know enough about all of this yet.

If anyone has an opinion on this, I would love to hear it and thank you in advance!

Really loving Keto so far to be honest so I am trying to find as much food as I can that feels more like regular eating.

No, your labeling already shows net carbs which is 7.6g. You do not subtract. You need to get rid of the script and stop subtracting.

Well I was told that Myfitnesspal does not display net carbs which would show inaccurate results?

Also why would it be that when I scan it into Myfitnesspal or Carb Manager, it shows as -1 Net Carbs instead of 7.6? I would have thought someone else would have figured out the correct carbs on these apps by now?

Also, how are you meant to know if a package is displaying net carbs or total carbs? It doesn't mention it anywhere, so I would really have no way of knowing either way?

Because you aren't in america and you are following american advice. Your labels allread have the fiber subtracted. So you dont need to run any scripts or do any subtraction.

Ok, Now I understand what you are saying. I had no idea about the label differences to be honest, and installed that script (which was obviously from someone American)
Well it kind of sucks that all the apps display everything wrong then.
So how would you suggest keeping track? write everything down manually or is there an app that does display it properly.

I actually thought I was doing pretty well for the first week, now I realise that I have messed up mostly the whole week.
I do have ketones, my doctor mentioned it yesterday, but now I am even more freaked out about how to limit myself to 20g of carbs per day..
It was hard enough with my fake amount I was trying to reach haha.

stop eating stuff like granola and it should be pretty easy. stick to green veggies and cauliflower. you can still use those products you just need to manually enter the data. if you stick with mostly the same foods, it's easy.

It's not all wrong, your labels shows net carbs and so does mfp as long as you dont use said script. All your labels will show net carbs already. Its labeling laws, they don't change within the country. Also no one needs to go as low as 20g. That's just general advice as you don,t need to test to find your limit. Vast majority will be in ketosis at 50g.

MFP is full of wrong information, especially about non us products. don't trust anything in there that you have not manually entered.

US products don't show net carbs. pretty much everywhere else on the planet does. so unless you're in america, you should assume you're seeing net carbs.

MFP is fine, especially outside america as it doesn't need to be fringed, just a quick glance first time you you use that ingredient to check it's right.

map? fringed? i have no idea what you're saying...

those are not 0 carb. fiber is already deducted so they're 7.6g of carbs/serving.

Idk if Australia’s labels work the same as European labels in that the carbs displayed are the net carbs. It’s more likely net carbs are 7g...

By the way, Thank you all for the comments, they were all super constructive,

So just one quick question.
Even being in my first week. Having over 20g of carbs daily would still keep me in ketosis? This is an important question for me as I had a totally different idea on it (based on all the apps and websites etc)

Because now that I am not going to be calculating my net carbs (wrongly) I would have no hope of making my goal daily unless I ate nothing.

What is a safe level of carbs to not risk jumping out of ketosis?

20g

Some people can eat more, but that's something you learn over the long term about yourself.

More nuts have some carbs. They are low carb but definitely have some carbs. I would imagine that the first reading was correct. Which isn’t horrible if you have it with almond milk.

Ha! I had no idea that standing in the grocery store trying to do elementary math was a uniquely American problem 🤣. You learn something new every day.

Not keto at all. You have 15+ grams of sugar per 100 g of product (avoid the per serving number, the recommended serving is usually ridiculous) To that you should add at least some of the fiber, the soluble part. Plus, if it has real honey, it's a lot of fructose that's going to keep your liver busy for quite some time. I would suggest you give up granolas and cereals altogether if you want to go keto.

You go by net carbs, not sugar content. And it's keto if it fits your macros

IIFYM is a dangerous way to go of you keto, the risk is to find themselves eating dirty crap in no time, just because it fits. McDonalds sandwiches once you throw the bun would probably fit, for God sakes. Plus, I would recommend a beginner to avoid refined carbs and sugary stuff altogether ,at least at the beginning, to reduce carb cravings. Most starches become sugar ultimately, so I would be careful also stressing out a perceived difference between "carbs" and sugar. My bottom line would be that you can start splitting hairs once you're settled into ketosis.

No it isn't. That IS keto. And there's no such thing as 'dirty' keto.

you can start splitting hairs once you're settled into ketosis.

Which is 24-48 hours after starting.

They do and there's nothing wrong with eating them

Interesting, if someone was limiting themselves to no more than 30g carbs for about 3 days, how long do you think it would be until they enter ketosis?

Ok

Thank you for the information.
I personally had not had this yet, I just found it today, the numbers looked low but obviously strangely low which is my reason for reaching out to you guys rather than just jumping in (I did taste it, but not in an actual bowl with milk)

Also thank you, I had no idea that different countries display labels differently, I just figured that what you scanned into MFP was generally the right details due to someone else from that same country entering it in.

I was excited as my breakfasts have consisted of Eggs, Bacon, Avo and cheese for the last week haha. I was hoping to find some kind of lighter breaky (might have to move to smoothies)

Real yogurt without sugar, with moderation, with walnuts or almonds is keto. You could sprinkle some dark unsweetened cocoa powder on top. Granola is usually baked in honey or sugar. Another option I find delicious is the stevia sweetened tiramisu cream (you need to eat it without ladyfingers to keep the carbs acceptable) There are some almond flour muffin n recipes too, which I personally avoid because they trigger carb cravings for me.

It is right but you have frigged it which only Americans need to do.
