This sub could really use a FAQ..

Other

So many of the posts in this sub are very similar.. for example:

-My furnace shuts off the burner while heating and the Ecobee reboots: Your furnace is overheating and hitting the high limit cutoff, which kills the 24V power to the thermostat. Check for a dirty air filter, blocked airflow or a blower that's not moving enough air. Not a thermostat problem in any way.

-My heat pump is cooling when it should be heating or vice versa: the reversing valve wire is set up for the wrong mode in the equipment settings (energize in heat vs. in cool), or not hooked up properly, or your heat pump isn't functioning properly

-My system didn't work right before, I put in an Ecobee and it still doesn't work: why would you think a new thermostat would fix a system issue?

-Can I install an Ecobee in a system with only 2 wires at the thermostat: no, read the instructions

-Posts about issues with new installs really need to include pictures of the wiring at the old thermostat, wiring at the new one, and the connections at the control board

Yeah I've been wanting to do something like this for a while...just never gotten around to it. If anyone wants to start putting one together I'm willing to help manage it.

Some questions:

Where should the link to it be?

- In a pinned post
- On the sidebar
- Both

Where should the content be hosted?

- On my documentation page
- In a Reddit post
- Somewhere else?

Who should have access to edit it?

- Just a handful of people
- Anyone (wiki-style)

Both. Depending on the app, finding the sidebar on mobile can be challenging or unintuitive. This is especially true if you don't know sidebars exist.

FWIW, as a new ecobee owner, I think it's a great idea! I had hoped when I first subscribed that there was one that concisely aggregated years of trial-and-error from the users in the sub.

Forget about the Sub.. Ecobee needs to fix their trash ass worthless excuse for an API. The app goes down more than anything

Google is your friend.

I think you missed his point. People come here for specific help. If there was an FAQ, they’d have some place to check before posting.

And sometimes, Google brings people here.

Nothing better than doing 20 minutes of searches only to find 298 different forum posts which end in "use the search".
