Mods: can we cool it on the memes? There's a subreddit for those.

I don't have a problem with people making Witcher memes, but they're kinda overrunning the front page of the sub. It would be less messy to keep this to show discussion/fan art/news and send the memes over to r/skelligers (which I'm happily subscribed to and visit whenever I feel like Witcher memes).

Rule 4 exists, and slapping "toss a coin" in Paint onto every single jpeg ever created seems like it should apply.

Just a thought.

Most subs I've seen that ban memes slowly die tbh. It needs to be either a super strict and serious discussion sub, or allow memes. I really don't see this sub surviving by just doing discussions about the show for the entirety of the downtime between seasons. It honestly can be both because sorting by flair is always an option. Maybe that option Just needs more exposure, a lot of people don't know it exists as an option. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks, that's a helpful feature, but I do think the meme-free or at least not-overrun-by-memes front page would be more inviting to occasional or first-time visitors.

There's a lot of good content that just gets lost in the coin-tossing.

Yeah, we hear you on that. We are discussing ways to make the rules concerning memes a bit more strict. This is just a temporary solution if you want to browse the sub without posts flaired as Memes ;)

I was made aware of the meme-free version by u/badfortheenvironment a couple weeks ago (thank you, btw), however, it doesn’t work on the reddit app for me? If I click on it, it just directs me to the regular sub’s frontpage, and sometimes it happens in the browser, too (I only ever really use the app though). That being said, thank all of you guys for your work on the sub.

That must be an app specific problem then. I just tested it with the android app and it works for me. The link should direct to this url: https://nm.reddit.com/r/netflixwitcher/ The nm. subdomain tells you that you are using the No Memes version.

If excessive memes are becoming a problem, I suggest “Meme Mondays”. Keeping them to one day per week should help both decrease the frequency and increase the quality.

I agree! Make it one or two days a week when memes are allowed to post, that’s enough and it works on other subs as well from what I’ve seen.

It's a difficult problem. I love memes and there have been some goods ones posted here plus a lot of terrible low effort ones too. The distinction between the two can be very subjective. I think a little tightening of enforcement could help, but there is a more immediate way we can help that. See a meme you don't like, downvote it and keep scrolling. What I think will help most is time. It's only been a month since the show dropped and everyone is still very excited. The memes will begin to be less numerous, just be a little patient.
