Places We Have Yet to See and How We Could See Them (Spoilers Extended)
Throughout the main series, we have gotten to visit so many of the amazing places in the ASOIAF world. That said there are numerous other places we haven't visited yet.
Basically the who/what/when/why/where about it.
While there are plenty of interesting places in the world such as Sothoryos, I hope to keep this post limited to places you think a POV character will travel to or reflect upon.
Bran is the cheat code:
"Once you have mastered your gifts, you may look where you will and see what the trees have seen, be it yesterday or last year or a thousand ages past. Men live their lives trapped in an eternal present, between the mists of memory and the sea of shadow that is all we know of the days to come. Certain moths live their whole lives in a day, yet to them that little span of time must seem as long as years and decades do to us. An oak may live three hundred years, a redwood tree three thousand. A weirwood will live forever if left undisturbed. To them seasons pass in the flutter of a moth's wing, and past, present, and future are one. Nor will your sight be limited to your godswood. The singers carved eyes into their heart trees to awaken them, and those are the first eyes a new greenseer learns to use … but in time you will see well beyond the trees themselves." -ADWD, Bran III
Casterly Rock
- Tyrion
Similar to how Meereen is taken, its theorized that Tyrion will use his knowledge of Casterly Rock's sewer system to help the Second Sons take this castle (which has never fallen)
"I know a way." Brown Ben Plumm stroked his speckled grey-and-white beard. "Sewers." -ASOS, Daenerys V
and:
Tyrion was given charge of all the drains and cisterns within Casterly Rock. Perhaps he hoped I'd fall into one. But Tywin had been disappointed in that. The drains never drained half so well as when he had charge of them. -ADWD, Tyrion III
- TWOW Prologue
Jeyne Westerling will "appear" and they (Ser Forley Prester and his party) are currently heading to the Westerlands. Not extremely probably but still possible.
Highgarden
GRRM stated this about Highgarden (and Casterly Rock):
GRRM: Both settings will appear in the future, but not necessarily in WINDS. SSM, Two Premiers: 22 March 2015
- Samwell Tarly
Sam sees Highgarden/Horn Hill after fleeing Euron/Oldtown
The Hightower
- Prologue/Epilogue
Epilogue of TWOW (I doubt it) or another book's prologue/epilogue
- Sam/Aeron
The only two POV characters anywhere near Oldtown.
- Glass Candle/Flame Vision
Leyton/The Mad Maid have been consulting spells for a decade. Mel, dragon dream, etc.
Starfall
- Areo Hotah
Currently the only POV in Dorne. Pursuing Darkstar with Obara and Balon Swann.
Summerhall
The ruins of the Summerhall are located north of the Dornish Marches. Obviously a big tragedy occurred here involving sorcery/fire/dragon eggs and possibly a blood ritual/sacrifice.
If we visit it, it would most likely be in a dream/flashback/vision, as most of the POV character aren't anywhere near here and there's not a big need to come here. Closest POV's are Arianne, JonCon and Areo Hotah.
Valyria
Of the numerous obstacles/routes on Daenerys' return to Westeros, Valyria is right in the middle of them.
While I expect 1 or more of these characters to die, the current possible POV's who could "glimpse Valyria" on Dany's return include: Daenerys, Victarion, Barristan and Tyrion, although it is by no means a guarantee.
Asshai
GRRM mentioned this about Asshai:
Question: Will we see Asshai?
GRRM: Only in flasback and memory, if at all. -SSM, Asshai.com Forum Chat: 27 July 2008
Which stinks because this quote seemed (at least to me) that Dany had to go to Asshai at some point:
To go north, you must journey south, to reach the west you must go east. To go forward you must go back, and to touch the light you must pass beneath the shadow.
…
What is there in Asshai that I will not find in Qarth?
Truth. -ACOK, Daenerys III
- Melisandre
She is commonly called Melisandre of Asshai. She has had previous flashback (Melony - Lot Seven)
- Dany
She could go there on her own, etc. but I doubt she heads west to get to Westeros.
Greywater Watch
The moving castle that belongs to the Reeds in the Neck. Howland Reed. Ned's bones, Hallis Mollen, Silent Sisters, several witnesses to Robb's will (Maege Mormont/Galbert Glover) could also possibly be here.
The closest POV's are Brienne and Jaime (unless you count LSH).
Isle of Faces
Located in the God's Eye, just south of Harrenhall, this one could have numerous possibilities due to its location. As of right now, I think Bran or Jon is the best bet.
Are there any other places that you think will be "visited" by POV Characters?
