Will the original production ever return to North America?

Specifically Toronto. The past 3 times it's come back to Toronto since 2015 it's been the "New Production" which is takes deep breath not great. I still obviously love it to death as I am a die hard loyal Phan but I'm just wondering if I'll ever get to see his fucking hat and slicked back hair ever again?

Not to mention the original blocking...

(I actually have a huge rant about The New Production if you look through my account. Would have posted it here if I knew this subreddit existed)

I think it's safe to say that it will be back someday. The original production is so popular, after it's been a long time since it's toured people will start wanting to see it again and it will undoubtedly sell tickets.

What I can say with confidence is that when the tour returns to North America, it won't be the restaged tour. It might be a restaged tour, ie. not the original Broadway staging, but it won't be the current version. You are far from the only person who didn't like the new production. It didn't get great reviews or sell very well and touring is all about money for the people who produce the tours. It didn't make money, so it won't tour again.

Probably after the current UK tour is complete or well under way. It seems quite likely that the world tour staging (which is quite similar to the original) will be used in the UK tour, and it will probably be brought over to or replicated in North America for another tour after that. I'm guessing North Americans can start expecting news for another tour within the next 5-7 years.

I agree with your comments on the new staging. I don’t like how the phantom pushes Christine around a lot. And I don’t like her slapping Raoul

I think after he says every hope and prayer rests on you now before she runs off

Harold Prince is now deceased so I don't see them mounting new tours of his direction anymore, although Cameron Mackintosh is a shrewd businessman so if tickets sales of the new staging slump, he could very well bring the "brilliant original" world tour to North America in the future. It's all business. Personally, I will not be buying tickets to the new staging anymore in hopes that it will go away. I will however continue to support the original staging in London, New York, and on tour if possible.

There have been plenty of replicas of the original production done without Harold Prince's direct involvement. The current world tour, the 2018 Brazilian production, I believe he was not even in Brazil for the 2005 production (even though he's credited for all of them, and underneath there's an associated director credited, who was actually responsible for getting the show up and running)

True but his estate still owns his work on the show so depending on who's running it, it might be difficult to get new productions up. It's an added complication.
