Line infection or ???

Bought a 4 pack of cans from a local brewery. Got them home and poured one out - smelled fine but the taste was of bile.

Am I crazy? My lizard brain was like do not drink it.

Should I contact the brewery?

Bile like baby vomit/baby diaper? That’s a common descriptor for Butyric Acid which is perceivable in very low concentrations (3mg/L) and is a common indicator of poor sanitation practices. In some cases can also be caused from over extended mashes (over 2 hours at temperatures under 140F).

That being said, definitely reach out to the brewery so they are aware. Often times they will also make it up to you as well.

On point. Let them know what you found. Provide them with the batch code as well if you've got it.

Absolutely you should contact the brewery, but at the same time a lot of craft beer is unfiltered/unpasteurized. How are you storing them?

That's no excuse for butyric. Filtering and pasteurizing aren't magic.

Maybe a 'one off.' Try another and see if it's the same. Usually they quality control and taste a few off the canning line. I'd contact them and try describe the flavour you get.

Is it a funky style like farmhouse saison or something? Are you on any new meds? ... No offence intended ... but I had some bloodthinners in the past that made my normal tastes go sideways. I also have a Teku glass that accentuates a sulfur smell.

No it's not saison like - it's like sick like.

No meds but i will allow that I'm fairly congested which does effect taste.
