If another group member brings up your low dps, don't automatically assume they're trying to be rude.
Seriously. It's getting annoying how many people jump on the defensive when another group member says, "Hey, bud, you're only doing 4k dps. What's up?"
My husband, who tanks, was just in a LFG normal SFK and halfway through asked a dps why he was only pulling 4k, which was below him. His tone was not insulting, just a general, "What's up?" with an intention of maybe giving him a few pointers. But before he could do that he was promptly kicked from the group.
Don't automatically assume someone is going to be rude to you. If you're doing a ridiculously low amount of dps, don't be surprised when someone points it out. And it's OKAY to have low dps if you just hit 85 and are still in a bunch of 80 purples and quest greens. It's OKAY to be doing low dps if you genuinely aren't sure what your rotation needs to be or what spec is best for your class. It's OKAY to be doing low dps if your geared as a healer or tank but are taking a break and doing some dps (I do this.) Just be honest about your short comings. People generally want to help you be better.
No, if someone asks you "What's wrong with your dps, noob?" THEN you can feel free to get defensive. I do understand that people seem to be frustrated right now and that makes a lot of people cranky as hell. I've grouped with quite a few downers who have absolutely nothing nice to say. But don't assume I'm one of them.
