Opted out in SEA on Christmas Eve and didnt get my bells jingled
I was amazed at the hole I discovered in security tonight...
I flew out on Alaska from SEA tonight around 8, got to the airport around 7 and was surprised to see backscatter scanners (and a bunch of them) at the checkpoint nearest the C terminal. I had everything ready to go; liquids bag, contact solution, shoes, pocket contents, everything in bins. I was told to remove my belt, the female agent just outside the metal detector/scanner made a comment about it being necessary because of the new technology... i cut her off there.
"I would rather not go through there" She didn't seem irritated but had to make the outdoor-voice call for opt out, male assist. She opened the rope and told me to stand on a floormat next to the scanner. I stood there for about 20 seconds, slowly realizing I was beyond the metal detector and nobody was paying close attention to me...
A male agent directed me along, asked where my bags were and I merely followed him to the xray machine outfeed. He was not looking at me at all as I walked among "screened" passengers while I pointed out my suitcase, messenger bag, and two bins. He gathered them and placed them on the table next to their explosive detection machine. He picked up my half full contact solution bottle but never opened it.
I faced my belongings while he patted me down, with NO EXPLANATION. However he barely touched my butt and didn't even come close to jingling my bells; no happy ending. He wiped his gloves and waited for results then I gathered up my thing and left.
There were so many points where I could have passed off a weapon, if I had one with me, or possibly even left the checkpoint had I not had bags. Oh wait, I could have snuck any number of things in taped to my crotch.
Nice show Theatrical Security Abomination, thanks for letting me bring my full toothpaste and nail clippers with me. What a joke.
