Boyfriend stood me up on Christmas Eve for last minute meetup. How to react?
Background: We are both 38, twice divorced, 3 kids each. Known each other for 2 1/2 yrs, dating off and on for most of it. Last 3 months has been the best ever. We live in separate cities about 20 on the so cal freeways. We typically see one another about 2-3 times a week.
This has never happened to me in all my years of dating so I really am at a loss as to how to handle this. My boyfriend and I had plans of him coming over Thursday night. He ended up smoking the strain of pot that made it difficult to function so I said stay home.
I let him know yesterday, Christmas Eve, that I wasn't mad but did question why he smoked before coming over and let him know my disappointment. We made plans to see each other Sunday afternoon but I expressed to him a couple of times that I'm bummed we couldn't see each other before then (both have family commitments on Christmas).
I hadn't heard from him in a few hours so I texted him and his response was, "someone is in a mood..." when I responded with a "wow" he says he just can't win with me. I told him that I've done nothing to deserve that and told him I won't talk about this via text so I called him.
He picked up second time I called. I told him I wasn't mad (he kept saying I was) but that I was bummed I couldn't see him and that I would like to have a little more priority in life. I told him that sometimes we need to step outside our bubble in order to appease the person we are with and that's when he said," okay, fuck it.. I'm coming over."
I asked him if he was sure because I thought I had heard him say earlier in convo that he was buzzed. He said he was fine. That was 10pm.
Oh, btw, we don't make it a habit of just coming over to each others places like that. This is probably the 3rd time in all this time that one of us has.
So I wait. About 10:30 i texted that the doors are unlocked (so that he can come up without ringing the doorbell). He responded about 10:50 saying, "Are tjey". Hmmm... that was odd.
I continued waiting. About 11:30 I'm genuinely concerned because of his earlier statement about begin buzzed. I texted asking if he was still coming. I called around midnight but after a ton of rings it went to voicemail (he just switched carriers and he apparently hadn't setup his voicemail so I couldn't leave a message.)
I got up, locked the doors, smoked a little herb to try and sleep and now here I am.
So.... what do I do now? I'm worried and pissed at the same time. This is completely out of character for him. Couple being stood up with the weird convo we had earlier that gave me a strange vibe, I'm not sure what to do.
If I had to guess how today will go, I would guess that he would send me a Merry Christmas text, probably say "I'm sorry, I passed out" and then expect me to accept that. In reality, however, I feel completely disrespected and my feelings were disregarded.
My gut tells me that when he contacts me I should tell him we'll talk about it in person later and leave it at that. I'm sure he'll get pissy back and say some passive aggressive childish "fine" comments.
I've never had this happen so I'm at a loss.
tl;dr: boyfriend stood me up on Christmas Eve after making last minute plans to come over. Never has happened before.. unsure best way to react so that I'm not starting a battle bigger than needs to be but enforces in him how displeased and hurt I am.
