Not able to create a Steam account ("Your account creation request failed, please try again later"), can someone explain?

Hi, so after reading about all these great deals at Steam I decided to set up an account. Problem is it won't let me: "Your account creation request failed, please try again later". Why is that? If it gave some explanation why it failed I might do something about it, but it doesn't. Does anyone know why I keep getting this message?

Edit: apparently everybody except The Great Leader is trying to create an account right now, so I have to be a bit patient. Thanks for helping anyway.

Edit 2: downloading the client first solved the problem. Am downloading my games right now!
