How do insert an image from my computer using HTML?

I'm currently teaching myself HTML and I CANNOT seem to insert an image from my Picasa album.

The code I'm using is:

<img src="url" alt="some_text"/>

substituting the "url" with the pathway to the image. What am I doing wrong?
