This may get downvoted to hell, but look what I made! Your inner Nintendo nerd will appreciate it.

"Hey Reddit, I know this will get downvoted, but I made a quilt of nostalgic things from your childhood that make you tear up at just the thought of them."
Soon to appear as a r/circlejerk post.
No joke, I had to double check to make sure this wasn't an r/circlejerk post.
I don't understand why you thought this would be downvoted to hell....
It's a commonly employed tactic to gain more karma, because we all know that karma is extremely valuable.
I downvoted. What you posted was clearly awesome, but I hate the karma whoring negative psychology.
good lord girl. magazine cut-outs? polka-dot sheets? stuffed animals?
Haven't redecorated since age 14, and as I'm headed to university in the fall, I see no point in buying new stuff for this room, I'm just going to buy new stuff for my dorm.
But yeah, it's bad, I know. :P
hahah I'm a hypocrite. my room in my parents house is still as it was about 9 years ago: pink, pink, pink, porcelain dolls. My mother doesnt want it to change though. i'm like "mom, how about we throw this out?" her response: "but darling i love everything in this room, it reminds me of your youth". haha
I love it! Care to share how this was done?
It was actually a present for a former boyfriend when he graduated last year, and I'm not a very good quilter, thus the horrible seams buuuutttt:
I googled pictures of the 8-bit characters, and then hand drew charts and colored in squares to make a pattern of sorts.
Then, I cut out 2 inch squares of each fabric color, and pieced them together, line by line as the pattern called for. I made each character square first, and then pieced them all together.
It took 60+ hours, but I think it came out reasonably well :)
I'm actually in the process of designing a new quilt for myself that I can take to college with me. Have no idea what to put on it though :P
Quilt a picture of your ex-boyfriend
You did a great job. Your ex got lucky.
I did the reverse of this. I am a guy who quilted a tetris quilt for my GF. Took me a hell of a lot more than 60 hours (probable my horrible art, drawing, sketching, sewing, quilting skills)

I think I remember seeing this quilt before. Was he a redditor?
*Note, I don't doubt that made it.
He was a redditor, but I don't think he's posted it before.
I posted it in June though, under my throwaway but I had to delete it because people were connecting my throwaway comments to me. Oops!
Ah, I must have seen it back in June.
Tis sad that I remember :/
sooooo............ how can i buy one??

"for a former boyfriend."
Okay, somebody still likes their ex & needs to get over him; hopefully college will fix that.
I do not like him in a romantic manner at all. I wish him nothing but the best, as he's a good guy, but I personally want absolutely nothing to do with him anymore.
Had worded the previous comment that way to prevent confusion, as last time I mentioned it to someone as something I'd made for my ex, they didn't realize I made it when we were still together and thought it was weird.
Ah, makes sense. My apologies for the confusion.
I want to believe that this was uploaded by a female. But there is not female in this picture. Reddit, I am confused.

A female submitted a picture of something and the composition's not 90% her face and 10% the object she's trying to show?!
Shut. Down. EVERYTHING!
God damn this website is creepy.
I was referring to this. But you're more than welcome to take a picture of yourself :) normally they're replied with praise.
Awesome! You should post this to somethingimade.
looks like the future setting of a jailbait photo shoot.

Yes, yes you should.

Aww, that is awesome! I like your stuff even more than mine. Go you! :)
I loves it. Out of curiosity, do you make these just for fun, or can someone pay you to make one? How much would it cost for a king size bed? You know...out of curiosity...:)
I've only made this one, and it was a present for my boyfriend of the time (now ex), and it was simply a creative, unique project idea.
I'm considering making something similar for myself to take to university, and if that goes well I'd consider doing commissions, but there are three issues with that:
Copyrighting. Technically, these characters are copyrighted (as far as I'm aware), so charging for items with them on it is probably illegal.
These things are a bitch to make ('scuse the French). My sewing machine is an old monster that likes to jam every 10 minutes so the process just becomes more and more grueling with every hour that goes by.
Even though the guy's my ex and is not on the top of my list of favorite people, it's not really fair to him to sell these because it was such a special gift. If everyone started getting these quilts, they wouldn't be so special anymore.
However, that being said, if you know any quilters or can find one on Etsy who's willing to do work for you, I can totally email them a pattern of the characters I've got, which are: Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, a fire flower, one of those coin box thingies (don't know the proper name), a star, a Boo, a Goomba, a 1-up mushroom and a couple others. :)
I'm a big time sewer, but I've never made a quilt. Is it really hard to master?
Honestly, it's really not. It's just something that takes practice. I've been sewing 5 or 6 years, on and off, and this was the first thing I did 100% by myself.
I think the hardest part is just having the patience to get through it. I don't even know how many curse words were uttered during the construction process :P
I would love the pattern if you have it. Maybe I'll give it a try, and see what happens. haha
I've been thinking of making a Megaman quilt for our bed as an anniversary gift because the comforter that my husband uses is falling to pieces and it'd look nice with my blue down one. So if you have any tips, please feel free to share them with me. I've never actually made a quilt before.
Patience and perseverance are key. Your sewing machine will jam, your fabric will bunch up sometimes, needles will break. It's normal, don't freak out. Curse a little, jump up and down, but don't give up. :P
In all actuality though, quilting tips:
Pins are your friends. If you want to avoid having your tiles all misaligned like mine, pin each piece together before sewing it. It helps keep your seams uniform and straight.
Take it one row at a time. Make a paper grid of the megaman pattern (I can try to make you one and PM it to you tomorrow, I'm about to go to sleep though) and cut squares of your colors. Then, lay them out in rows according to the pattern. It's easy to get lost with so many tiles, but if you just follow the pattern, you should be fine. This little tip is like word vomit, so sorry for that.
I think it's a great idea though, and if you actually try it, I wish you luck! :)
You are wonderful - Thank you!
Wow, c'est super beau ! I usually hate patchwork. But this... I'd buy one :D
My OCD is TINGLING.
My brother's ex-girlfriend was making one of these. You aren't her (why you made it isn't the same), but when I clicked the link I was convinced you would be!
Why do you think this will get downvoted? Nintendo, Calvin & Hobbes, and bacon can do no wrong here.
I MUST HAVE THIS!
downvoted
bingo. Otherwise awesome, I just fucking hate it when people say "this may get me downvoted" and there is only one way to kill it.
Or "EDIT: Why the downvotes?"
I'll tell you why I upvoted:
Regardless of OP's obvious use of reverse psychology, she is a female and not the forefront focus of this submission. I figured the hivemind would provide enough downboats anyway to punish her amateurish efforts to score upboats.
The actual submission is also pretty cool, thus warranting the upvote.
Let this be a note to OP, though, not to try and take advantage of an intelligent community.
I don't know, it could just be a really creepy guy
It could be... but she's a self-proclaimed female (see her comment history). I'm not one to question someone's gender unless I'm unsure and getting ready to have sex with them. That would then beg the question "how drunk am I?"
Yeah it's really annoying. There way no way in hell OP you were going to get downvoted to hell for this submission. Knock it off.
Even though she's not the focus, this is no surprise.
