Chicagoans moving to SF. What are the most Bohemian neighborhoods sans douchebags?

My wife, 3 yo daughter and I are moving next year to the Bay Area. We both have landed jobs in SF and would prefer to use public trans, if possible, to get around. We would like a younger, non-douchey place to live and don't mind less gentrified areas as long as its not terribly raunchy/dangerous.

We super excited about the move and would appreciate any help in the search for our new home!
